Let’s talk turkey, or Turkey (I refuse to use the dumb Türkiye spelling that is suddenly in vogue, same with calling Kiev “Kyiv”).

Turkey has been a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, more commonly called NATO, since February 18, 1952. Those who have watched M*A*S*H know that Turkey sent troops to fight alongside Americans and South Koreans in the Korean War to the tune of around 5,400 soldiers from an infantry brigade. Around 1,700 U.S. personnel are stationed in Turkey on an given day

While Turkey is a Muslim nation and has been sending her swarthy citizens all over Europe where they generally are a pain in the butt, they are still members of NATO. Although I think NATO should be completely disbanded given that the reason for NATO in the first place, acting as a counter to the Soviets, is now gone, nevertheless it is still in place and that means that in theory anyway so is Article 5 of the charter that stipulates that an attack on any member of NATO will be considered an attack on all and responded to accordingly.

This has some importance as it relates to Turkey, not because of Russia but rather because of Our Greatest Ally. As far back as February of this year I was warning of rumblings about Israel looking for a new existential threat even as the now interminable not-a-war with Iran drags on: As Predictable As The Sun Rising In The East…. Long story short, the phrase used was “Turkey is the new Iran”.

I was pooh-poohed by some but a month later Turkey came up again, this time from Benjamin Netanyahu: They Call This Foreshadowing

Now more than 6 months into this “small potatoes” not-a-war that we are totally winning while also desperately trying to find an off-ramp that allows Trump save face, our goodest buddies ever in Israel excused themselves from the war they have been demanding to focus on easier prey like unarmed civilians in Gaza and Lebanon. It was all fun and games until Iranian rockets, drones and ballistic missiles started raining down on Israeli cities and besides they had the Idiot-In-Chief in America to prolong the fighting and distract Iran for them.

Turkey was on my mind again and not because we are fast approaching Thanksgiving. Yesterday this was trending on Twitter…

Senator Lee and Senator Rick Scott received their marching orders and carried out this totally contrived exchange in order to shift the conversation. See, the U.S. should leave NATO not because NATO is obsolete or that the U.S. has to carry the bulk of the burden of funding NATO and the lion’s share of military spending. Nope, we should leave NATO because Turkey is a member of NATO and they have relationships in Iran, which is not at all surprising given both are Muslim states.

If the U.S. left NATO, we would no longer be obligated to come to Turkey’s aid if Israel attacked them.

That is the real reason for these tweets.

To leave NATO would require a 2/3 Senate vote and then a year later the withdrawal would take effect. That probably isn’t going to happen any time soon so maybe the intent here is to create a framework where the U.S. could refuse to come to the aid of Turkey if a fight broke out. On the other hand that wouldn’t stop the rest of NATO, including the U.K. and Germany (where some 3 millions Turks reside), from still being obligated to defend Turkey.

I don’t think that an Israeli attack on Turkey, or a false flag attack on Israel carried out by Mossad but pinned on Turkey, is likely any time soon but give Israel credit: they are always thinking well ahead and it sure seems to me that they are slowly building the framework for a future war against Turkey. Like Iran, I don’t see Israel trying to invade and occupy Turkey but it would be in keeping with their past behavior to try to collapse Turkey into chaos to eliminate a regional threat that would interfere with their plans to achieve the Greater Israel project.

Let me be clear and to head off the inevitable comments: Just because I don’t support Israel doesn’t mean I support Turkey or Iran or Syria or any other non-White nation. I would gladly see the U.S. leave NATO and all people of Turkish descent be deported from America and the rest of Europe alike, perhaps on the same planes as every other Muslim and Jew. Turkey is not a friend of America or Whites just because they don’t get along with Israel. To repeat my position, often time the enemy of my enemy is also my enemy although Turkey doesn’t own every U.S. member of Congress.

What Senators Lee and Scott don’t seem to understand is that support for Israel has already plummeted in most of the Western world, specifically Europe, and even in the U.S. it is cratering. Patrick Cleburne argues, as do many others, that Israel is on the ballot in November and I believe is likely to help usher in a drubbing without precedent in the midterms: Mid-Terms To Be Anti-Israel Referendum? The Israelis surely know this as well and understand where the wind is blowing, and without Daddy America to protect them they are likely to be in serious trouble. That ought to concern all of us as I would put literally nothing past Israel.

One final thought….

Very few people anywhere on the spectrum of opinion about Israel seem to notice the one thing that I find so very bizarre, namely that a tiny little country of some 10 million people, smaller than New Jersey, somehow is the single most significant issue in an upcoming U.S. election. The sooner we divest ourselves of this obsession with Israel, however that needs to happen, the better.
