2025: The Year In Mass Shootings

The term mass shooting is a slippery one. When the media wants to push for gun control or if they just want a splashy headline they will reference the leftist Gun Violence Archive that uses probably the broadest definition of the term: four or more shot or killed, not including the shooter.

Some gun guys squawk about my use of GVA statistics because they are liberals and clearly in favor of “gun control”, as opposed to criminal control. The reason I use their numbers is simple: they are the same numbers the media and many dimwits on social media will cite. My tactic is not to debunk GVA as a partisan hack outfit but instead to subvert their data by using it to point out something GVA refuses to do and will in fact block you on social media for pointing out: the racial composition of the mass shooters using the very definition they use.

In fact a lot of 2A advocates mistakenly will discount mass shootings if they are “gang related” which plays directly into the hands of those who slander White men as the typical mass shooters. Trying to argue about gun violence when you allow the other side to redefine terms is foolish. If they want to use the Gun Violence Archive as their source, let’s do it but I will get deeper into the numbers and point out what GVA doesn’t want you to know.

I run into this all the time on social media from the other side as well. I can almost picture someone after I assert that the vast majority of mass shooters are black furiously doing a google search like “Are most mass shooters White men” and like clockwork they will cite a Newsweek story with this headline: White Men Have Committed More Mass Shootings Than Any Other Group….

…and triumphantly present a screenshot of that article to me as “proof” without having read the story at all. Checkmate bigot!

I will then ask “Oh, did you read the article and look into the data they cite?”. Most smarter commenters will immediately recognize the trap. As it turns out I already read that story and then did what none of them will do which is read the data the story relies on, in this case from that well known bastion of far left kookery Mother Jones. That story conveniently excludes as “mass shootings” any shooting that are “gang related”….

We exclude shootings stemming from more conventionally motivated crimes such as armed robbery or gang violence. (Or in which the perpetrators have not been identified.)

Being affiliated with a gang of some sort is nearly ubiquitous among young black men and doesn’t mean they are part of a criminal enterprise. It is just a way to identify your homies as opposed to different homies. That allows liberals to discount a huge percentage of mass shootings.

The unidentified shooter thing is also a nice touch as many black on black mass shootings are part of a cycle of retaliation and blacks are notoriously uncooperative with the police, living by the mantra of snitches get stitches and preferring to respond to a mass shooting with another mass shooting, while at the same time demanding justice and asking why the cop haven’t caught the shooters. When I point this out I usually get blocked. It is delightful each and every time.

That is a vintage Dissident Thoughts long wind-up to the actual point.

In 2025 mass shootings were down quite dramatically from the four year streak of 2020-2023 that saw more than 600 mass shootings in each year, with a high water mark of nearly 700 (689) in 2021 at the height of the police stepping back following the Summer of Love. As of this morning the GVA has the 2025 total at 406 mass shootings, the lowest total since 2018 where we had a mere 335. I covered this here: A Photo Finish!

I spent some time yesterday going through the numbers and focused on those shootings where at least 10 people were shot, either killed or wounded. Why 10? It is a nice round number and it is hard for anyone to argue that 10 people shot is not a mass shooting.

According to the GVA data as of this morning there were 25 mass shootings in 2025 where 10 or more people were injured or killed.

What I did next is look at each of these mass shootings to determine the race of the shooter(s) and entered them into a spreadsheet.

What I found was exactly what I expected to find. I tried to determine the race of the shooter(s) based on a few factors. The easiest of course is when the shooter(s) were arrested and/or killed by cops. That is the case in 16 out of 25 mass shootings. In others I based my assumption on the circumstances. Given that most shootings and killings are intraracial I assumed in many cases that a shooter(s) at a “rap album release party” where the victims were black is very likely also black.

There are a few where I just couldn’t make a reasonable guess, most notably the shooting in Stockton, California with 4 killed and 13 injured but the victims are a mixed bag so the shooter could have been black, or Asian or mestizo. Almost certainly not White. As a rule you don’t get White people doing drive-by shootings into crowds at rap album release parties or “Juneteenth” celebrations and if the suspect was White, believe me we would know about it because the media would be slobbering all over themselves to report that.

With that in mind, my best and most conservative estimate is that of the 25 mass shootings in 2025 with 10 or more shot, 16 were definitely or close to definitely committed by blacks. That works out to 64%. 3 of the mass shootings were committed by White men, or 12%. Mestizos account for 2 or 8%.

That is 21 of the 25 or 85%. What about the other four?

The aforementioned shooting in Stockton, California was carried out by multiple masked gunmen and was clearly targeted as the birthday party was attended by gang members and rappers. The four killed were a mixed bag: Amari Peterson a 14 year old black boy; Maya Lupian, an 8 year old mestizo girl; Journey Rose Reotutar Guerrero, also an 8 year old mestizo girl; and Susano Archuleta, a 21 year old mestizo man. Stockton is 17% White and the shooters certainly weren’t White, 12% black, 21% Asian and 44% mestizo. Until arrests are made we won’t know.

The same is true of the Maxton, North Carolina shooting with 2 killed and 11 injured. The two killed were Jessie Locklear Jr., 49, and Nehemiah Locklear, age 16. They are presumably related and appear to be some sort of mixed race. No arrests, no suspect descriptions. Probably black shooters but I can’t make that call.

A different party in North Carolina, this one in Hickory, involved something of a unicorn, with White shooters and black shooters. That almost never happens. Seven people have been indicted. Garon Nathaniel Killian is a 20 year old White man. Ke’andre Mack is a 19 year old black male. Toland Huff Jr. is a 20 year old black male. Zachary Bates is a 22 year old White man. Izaiah Kane Mitchell is an 18 year old mixed race male. Charles Rodell Kincaid III is a 27 year old chubby black male. All six have been indicted on one charge each of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and 63 counts each of attempted first-degree murder. One or more will get charged for the death of the lone fatality, 58 year old White man Shawn Patrick Hood. A White girl, Zoe Makenna Braswell, age 18, was indicted on “Four counts of accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder”.

So this one is hard to categorize. 3 black shooters, one mixed race shooter, two White shooters and one White female accomplice. It sounds like some sort of gang initiation shooting making the mix of races involved very peculiar indeed.

The final one is from November in Houston, Texas with one killed and 9 injured. The person killed was a 63 year old black woman named Eleanor Williams so I assume she was an innocent by-stander. I assume the shooter(s) was black as it was a large gathering with a fight that escalated into gunfire, 10 shot with only one killed so it sounds like a black shooter, but I can’t really say that with any confidence other than just pattern recognition so I am leaving that one uncategorized.

To summarize.

Of the 25 mass shootings in 2025 with 10 or more killed or injured….

• At least 64% were committed by black men
• 12% were committed by White men
• 8% were committed by mestizos
• The only 16% either are unknown or had a mixed group of shooters.

Also I would point out that just based on prior years and my admittedly cursory examination of mass shootings throughout the year, it is highly likely that the vast majority of the remaining 381 mass shootings involving 4 to 9 victims were carried out by blacks with a much smaller percentage committed by mestizos and White men with an Asian or three maybe mixed in. I don’t have time to look at all of them but I would bet a shiny quarter that I could pick a dozen at random and almost all of them would be black shooters.

Some other fun facts, a quick count shows Texas in the lead last year with 36 mass shootings followed closely by California with 33. Illinois came in third with 28 thanks almost entirely to Chicongo but Ohio of all places was right on their heels with 22! Other notables include Alabama with 11, Florida with 16, Georgia with 19, Louisiana with 16, Tennessee with 16 (thanks Memphis!), Pennsylvania at 17, Mississippi tallied 16, Michigan 14, Minnesota 9 all of them in Minneapolis (go figure). My home in the Hoosier state racked up 10, as many as Maryland which shows that Indianapolis is quickly turning into Baltimore.

States like Maine and Wyoming had one apiece and they were domestic violence while the two Whitest states in the Union, New Hampshire and Vermont, had none. Rhode Island had one thanks to the Brown mass shooting but neither of the Dakotas had any. Nebraska had 3, all in Omaha. None in Alaska.

In general, the rare White mass shooters tend to kill more people and are often either some sort of domestic violence (man kills wife and kids kind of things) or someone clearly off his rocker like the Mormon church shooter in Grand Blanc, Michigan or the trannie that shot up the Annunciation School. Mestizos and blacks tend to be more targeted shootings that stem from a squabble.

We will see how this year turns out. The fellas in Chicongo wasted no time: First Chicago shooting of 2026 reported 90 minutes into the new year; at least 4 others shot since midnight. I will go on record to predict 450 mass shootings in 2026 and we will see next January how close I was.

What is without question, if you avoids blacks like the plague, crowds in general and stay out of cities your chances of being killed in a mass shooting plummet to nearly zero. If America was serious about gun violence we would focus on the people committing gun violence but the “people” running America aren’t serious about reducing gun violence and instead seem hellbent on encouraging violent crime.
