Another Cautionary Tale

We see it happen over and over. Someone tries to act like they are living in a civilized society when they are dealing with uncivilized people.

Beloved father-of-nine is killed when road rage incident at ice cream shop turned deadly

A beloved father-of-nine was killed after a suspected road rage altercation in San Francisco while taking his kids out for ice cream.

Jason Elola, 49, was driving to a dessert spot with his wife, Gabrielle Elola, and two of his daughters, when he and Martin W. Davis Jr.’s vehicles collided on Saturday.

The family were on their way back from Elola’s son’s 18th birthday party when the crash occurred at around 7:40pm.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the scene of an apparent road rage incident and discovered Elola with ‘apparent visible injuries,’ the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Police believe there was a physical altercation between Elola and Davis before the latter fled the scene. No other details were given regarding the altercation.

Davis, 37, later called CHP’s non-emergency number to report his involvement in the incident and was told to return to the scene.

He was taken into custody on suspicion of murder. He is currently booked at the Santa Rita Jail with no bail.

I tried to find a picture of Martin W. Davis Jr. but was unsuccessful, however given the circumstances and the name I am guessing more than one but fewer than three Gs were involved.

Many of the stories about this event indicate that Elola was trying to de-escalate the situation but was obviously unsuccessful. He looks like a big dude and the news is suspiciously thin on details about what happened, whether a gun was involved, or much about the man who was arrested but doesn’t appear to be in the Santa Rita Jail at present.

We don’t know for sure what happened other than there was an apparent “road rage” incident that turned deadly, and that can happen just about anywhere.

The lesson here is to always be aware of your surroundings and always be prepared for trouble. Situational awareness is your first line of defense. If you get rear-ended on a road near my house and the driver is a 70 year old White lady, you can react in one way, but in Alameda County if you are read-ended by a person of color? Call 911 and don’t get into a shouting match with the other driver.

Don’t let your ego and testosterone land you in a pine box and don’t make the mistake of assuming everyone is a reasonable person. The sad truth is many people are simply awful, violent and lacking even the most basic impulse control, and not just blacks.

Getting home safely is far more important than making some bullshit point.
