Perilous Prom

When I was a high schooler in the 1980s the prom could be a scary thing. If you had a steady girl not so much but for those who were single and needing to find a date? Oh it was enough to cause many a teen to break out in a cold sweat. For others that had dates it was stressful because it was statistically, in the sense of what high school kids tell each other, the night your girlfriend was mostly likely to give up her virginity if she hadn’t already. Not to mention picking out a tuxedo, the right corsage and of course dancing in public.

Stressful times!

Compared to now it was a piece of cake.

Last week I mentioned a shooting in Indianapolis at an “after-prom” party: Bitches Be Crazy. In that shooting an Airbnb-type rental was the location for the after-prom party hosted by a 2G woman for her daughter and the mom (Brittany Marie Members) ended up getting dead after gunfire erupted.

Now we have a pre-prom shooting….

1 killed, 4 others injured after gunfire erupts during pre-prom photo session at Brownsville park, officials say

Brownsville is aptly named being 2/3 black…

Brownsville is about an hour from Memphis and is the county seat of Haywood County, Tennessee. Fun and related fact, it is the only other county in Tennessee that is majority negro other than Shelby County, home of Memphis. Back to the story…

One person died and four others were injured after gunfire erupted Friday night at a city park in Brownsville, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Haywood County Mayor David Livingston told FOX13 that the shooting happened while students were taking prom pictures at Webb Banks Passive Park on Key Stone Street. The mayor said that prom was canceled due to the violence….

…The TBI said Saturday that five people were shot and one died.

In posts on Facebook, Haywood County Schools identified the student killed as Saturah Hayes. The school district also said schools within the district would be closed Monday “to allow students, families, faculty & staff time to grieve and support one another.”

I am not sure what a pre-prom photo shoot is, we had our pictures taken at the prom in front of some cheesy backdrop and usually a few candid photos taken at the home of the girl before leaving. A formal pre-prom photo shoot sounds like a modern invention and especially one appealing to 2Gs with their love of ostentatious displays.

The girl killed was Saturah Hayes….

She was “lost to gun violence” like it was something that just happened, a mysterious force that struck her down or something like cancer. She wasn’t “lost to gun violence”, she was killed in black on black violence.

No word yet on what led to the fight, other than the obvious of more than zero blacks being in the area. Reports say that over 100 yoofs were in the area and that just spells trouble. Also no indication of whether Saturah was the target or just a by-stander.

A shooting at an after-prom party. A shooting at a pre-prom photo shoot. All we need now is a shooting at the prom itself to get the trifecta.

Gun violence will be used but never black on black.
Dank meme spotted-If black lives matter why do you keep killing each other.
Reminds of the letter to the KKK urban legend.
