A busy overnight to ring in the new year in Indianapolis….
IMPD: At Least Two People Dead, Many Injured in Separate Shootings
Indy Metro Police say at least ten shootings have taken place in the last several hours, and at least two people are dead.

The most recent one was around 5:30 this morning. Dey sho know how to ring in dat New Year!
Meanwhile the Indianapolis local news is spinning the carnage in 2023 as an “improvement” with only 216 homicides in 2023!
Homicide numbers decreased in Indianapolis in 2023
As of late on the last night of the year, Indianapolis’ 2023 homicide total showed a 7% decrease from the year before.
IMPD detectives determined homicide was involved in 216 killings this past year, down from 226 homicides in 2022.
The clearance rate of those detectives stands at approximately 45%, indicating almost half of the cases they investigated this year resulted in either an arrest or in the filing of charges.

A more accurate headline might indicate a slight reduction in homicides compared to the record high the prior year. Anyway, no signs the shootings are going to slow down which is always good news for content at Dissident Thoughts.
“The clearance rate of those detectives stands at approximately 45%, indicating almost half of the cases they investigated this year resulted in either an arrest or in the filing of charges.”
I would think clearance rate would include convictions, but I guess not. So there’s a 50/50 chance you won’t get arrested, plus a pretty good chance that if you do get arrested you won’t get convicted. Copy that.
I liked that as well, simply charging someone is “clearing the case” which is obvious bullshit but it isn’t the cops job to prosecute criminals, just arrest them I guess
Not only that, but the funnel is further narrowed by what they choose to classify as “homicide” in the first place.
Few years ago Chicago Magazine did an eye-opening article on the topic in Chicago. One example I remember was where they found, in an abandoned building, a corpse so decomposed it took DNA to figure out if it was male or female. The person had been wired (arms and legs bound with wire) to a straight back chair. It was not classified as homicide but rather as “unknown/accidental”. Because apparently people are all the time wiring all four of their own limbs to a chair by accident.
PS: for those interested in Chicago crime, HeyJackass is an excellent resource. Cwbchicago.com (“Crime in Wrigleysville and Boystown” — but covers all Chicagoland) is good in that it reports actual races (or used to, I haven’t read it in a few years).
As if there were any chance of the one holiday which even the not currently homicidal ones celebrate by firing off a gun would slip by without a shooting.
Typo: meant to write “that the one holliday.”
I am looking forward to a slaughter on MLK day
“I am looking forward to a slaughter on MLK day”
MLK day in most areas is too cold for them to get excited about much of anything. Juneteenth, on the other hand, at least here in Northern Indiana, is “kill a basketball-american day.”
Third highest body count in a mass shooting last year was at a Juneteenth “celebration”
I heard that the new slogan is “Shoot for score in ’24!”
Hey, Arthur, did you see this one–from your home town of Toledo no less?

Way off topic, but I was amused this morning when I found out that Scholar-infested Haiti, who is always asking for more aid, government or private, charity, mission trips, disaster relief, etc., is apparently unironically celebrating it’s Independence Day today.
As Inigo Montoya said, “I do not think that word means what you think it means.”
its
As long as dey be killin each other, everything is fine. Shoot, I’d probably contribute to the project…
Rookie numbers.
