Texas clinic owner convicted in $26M military health fraud tied to gold-plated Cybertruck

A gold-plated Cybertruck?

A Texas mental health clinic owner was convicted by a federal jury after prosecutors said he orchestrated a $26 million scheme to defraud the military’s health care program, using some of the proceeds to fund luxury purchases, including a gold-plated Tesla Cybertruck worth more than $100,000.

Kevin D. Curry, 64, of Frisco, was found guilty Thursday in federal court in Fort Worth on three counts of health care fraud, three counts of offering and paying illegal health care kickbacks and three counts of engaging in monetary transactions in criminally derived property, according to the Justice Department.

Federal prosecutors said Curry exploited TRICARE, the health care program serving active-duty servicemembers, retirees and their families, by billing for transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS, therapy that was medically unnecessary or, in many cases, never provided.

The Justice Department said Curry falsely represented himself as a medical doctor, used licensed doctors’ credentials without their knowledge or consent to submit claims to TRICARE, and directed employees to fabricate medical records to justify fraudulent billings.

Authorities said Curry’s clinics submitted more than $26 million in false, fraudulent or kickback-tainted claims to TRICARE, which ultimately paid approximately $17 million.

Then this genius, having pulled off a pretty significant caper, decided to lay low by….buying a gold plated Cybertruck.

I checked story after story, lots had pictures of the gold plated Cybertruck and no mugshot but I kept searching and was rewarded for my efforts by finding some professional listings for Kevin D. Curry and I was shocked, shocked I say, to discover what he looked like…

Of course he is black and fell victim to the black mythology that the way you show off how classy and sophisticated you are is with the gaudiest, most grotesque ostentatious displays of affluence possible. This is often seen with ghetto thugs living in the projects endlessly filming themselves with fans of cash.

Now if he had just been doing this quietly, a little here and little there, he could probably have ripped off Tricare for millions but instead he decided to buy the gaudiest, flashiest thing he could think of to draw attention to himself and lead people to wonder: how did a mental health therapist make enough money to buy that?

If you remember Superman III, you might recall that Richard Pryor played a computer engineer who somehow programmed his company’s payroll system to deposit all the partial cents into his account and then shows up to work in a bright red Ferrari.

This would later become a plot line in Office Space.

The one upside of America’s seemingly insurmountable black crime problem is that black criminals, even the “smart” ones, are incredibly dumb and lacking any sort of critical thinking skills. Thank goodness for small favors.
