15-year-old shot, killed during dog attack, medical examiner says
A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed during a dog attack in Akron, Ohio, Tuesday.
The Summit County medical examiner said the shooting happened about 7:20 p.m.
Akron police said a 14-year-old boy went to Josiah Harris’s home to visit. When the 14-year-old approached the house, Harris’s dog ran toward him and began attacking, latching onto his left arm, police said.
While being attacked, the 14-year-old pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, hitting both the dog and Harris, who was trying to pull the dog away.
Well.
The most obvious question is: why is a 14 year old carrying a gun to visit his friend?
When I was 14/15 years old and went to a friend’s house I usually just rode my bike and as far as I can recall I never was packing a gat. I probably had a few bucks in my Velcro closure wallet and sometimes carried a butterfly knife (that I still own) because ninja stuff was in vogue in the 1980s but a gun? Nah.
Also to be fair, a 14 year old who likely has no training in shooting and is being attacked by what I assume was some variation of pit bull is not going to score well on marksmanship. He probably was blazing away while a 50 pound mass of muscle was trying to rip his arm off, it is a miracle he only hit the dog and his friend.
So to answer the question posed in the title….
Josiah Harris let the dogs out but he definitely won’t be doing that again.

You know, sometimes I half think it is cruel to make mockery of stuff like this but then I remember that these idiots are going to keep committing crimes until they murder someone and end up in prison costing the taxpayers enormous sums for room and board.
This is real life, not Hollywood, and they are not going to experience some redemption arc because a liberal White woman at their public school believes in them and finally shows them they can rise above the ghetto.
Nope, a 14 year old 2G wandering around the streets of Akron with a gun is just a future murder/carjacking/mass shooting waiting to happen. I doubt he will even be charged for being a minor in possession of a firearm, nor will his mama be held accountable because they are black.
The only tragedy here is that the shooter will survive the dog attack and is plenty young enough to commit dozens of future crimes before he gets caught for something serious or a different 2G caps him in the ghetto circle of life.
I think it would be hard for me to miss a dog attached to my left arm with a pistol in my right hand but there again, I practice shooting to maintain my marksmanship skills. I’d like to see him enact the attack and his response in court …
No mention if the dog survived, though with the 2G’s, no doubt it would be a “status symbol” dog like a pit bull or an XL bully and unlikely to be a poodle or Labrador. So if the mutt did die, no great loss.

I don’t know Phil, I work EMS and seen our local police struggling with an aggressive dog attack unable to shoot it effectually. Wasn’t a pitbull but more of a Shepard mix.
Do all over you the other officer wisely didn’t attempt to shoot it.
His partner deployed a lot of police grade pepper spray and stopped the dog attack. That officer was NOT transported inside our Ambulance back to the ER. He was fully swamped with pepper spray. Just treating his arm wounds was pretty hard for us.
We got a pickup truck and gas masks brought in for transport and outside decontamination of the Officer before he got into the ER.
It’ll probably increase his street cred.
Well…..Akron is a nigger shithole
Now, just to be clear, when I was 14 we moved from 40 acre paradise to town.
I hated it, I often put a handlebar pack on my bicycle containing my 3 handguns, hundreds of rounds of ammo, a small box of tackle, put my fishing pole across my back and pedaled 14 miles to the coal pits for a day of being outdoors.
No one ever raised an eyebrow.
Poor dog….
If I was a dog, I would rather be shot dead than experience that nasty nigger taste.
