The gunman — identified as a US citizen from Senegal — had a Quran in his car and was dressed in clothing described as Islamic garb when he began firing into the crowd.
Sources told The Post he was possibly motivated by the US strikes against Iran.
He has a history of arrests in Texas, and is believed to have lived in New York City from 2000 to 2008, the sources said.

FBI Joint Terrorism Taskforce investigating mass shooting at Austin bar near UT campus
Two people were killed and 14 others wounded when a gunman opened fire at a packed bar in downtown Austin early Sunday — and the FBI is now probing the shooting as potential terrorism.
The shooter was killed minutes after the carnage by responding cops.
“There were indicators that on the subject and in his vehicle that indicate potential nexus to terrorism,” said Alex Doran, a special agent with the FBI’s San Antonio field office, to reporters.
“Again, it’s still too early to make a determination on that,” he said — although the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force has joined the investigation into the mass shooting.
Cops were on the scene in 57 seconds and killed the shooter who is reported to have just stopped, put on his hazard lights, and started shooting, before driving away and shooting random pedestrians. Mrgunsngear posted some footage from inside the club after the shooting, it is awful.
None of that sounds like a gang related shooting but it could be, however the timing and the arrival of the “FBI Joint Terrorism Taskforce” also makes it seem less likely to be a gang-banger.
We have been warned about “sleeper cells” for decades but this might be one of the first times we have seen one in action, or given that it was a lone gunman (so far) it is more likely this was some goat humper that blew a fuse because of the attacks on Iran and shot up a place full of White people. If so I suspect he might be a UT-Austin student because he knew where to go.
Let’s see the name of the shooter and that will tell us a lot. If this is terrorism related to the Iran attacks the two dead and counting are just the latest casualties that result from America sticking our nose in where it doesn’t belong.
