The latest cultural vandalism is due out next summer, Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic tale the Odyssey.
The first trailer for the film hit about a month ago and has 40 million views on Youtube. It features lots of shots of Matt Damon as Odysseus with a full beard which is kind of weird to see, an aging Anne Hathaway as his wife Penelope and lots of hints at some interesting scenes including what I assume is the cyclops Polyphemus.
All well in good, it probably was going to be loud and dark being directed by Christopher Nolan but not much else. Alas we live in the 2020s so it was doomed to be wrecked and sure enough it has been revealed that The Odyssey takes some expected liberties with casting.
The most egregious and the one getting the most attention is the apparent casting for the role of Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in the world, with Black Panther actress Lupita Nyong’o. Compare and contrast Diane Kruger in the 2004 film Troy with Lupita Nyong’o.
That is certainly not the face that launches a thousand ships. I guess if you are into that sort of thing, and almost no one is, Lupita Nyong’o is less obscenely hideous than most African women but still is far less attractive than the average midwestern White girl working Applebee’s.
The apparent race swapping switch has been met with a ton of derision on social media, with one person calling her “Helen of DeTROYt” which is pretty damn funny.
Another account asked Grok to show what some alternatives would look like, including Sydney Sweeney, Anya Taylor-Joy and others. Any one of these would be an enormous improvement:
Really any mid White actress would be far better. I might be convinced to go to war for Sydney Sweeney. For Lupita Nyong’o? I wouldn’t even raise my voice other than urging her to go away.
That is the most repulsive switch but we also have homely Zendaya playing Athena. Not content to murder every single scene she was in for the Dune adaptations, now she is playing a Greek goddess. I am not sure how Greeks imagined Athena but I suspect that some homely mulatto mystery meat doesn’t quite capture it. In the 1981 film Clash of the Titans, Athena was played by Susan Fleetwood who at least could pass for Greek.
Then we have a Colombian mestizo, John Leguizamo, playing the friend of Odysseus named Eumaeus. Legumewhamo recently came out with some classic virtue signaling, insisting that “supporters of ICE”, whatever that means, not watch “his movies”.
I quipped on Faceberg: “Let’s compromise, I will watch movies that he is in but I won’t pay to do so”.
The cast page also lists Ellen Page, a mentally ill young woman who was convinced to have her breasts surgically removed and call herself “Elliot”. No idea who she is playing as nothing is listed but it will of course be a male character.
They have to know this will hurt ticket sales but, and this is important, it isn’t about making money. Not anymore. Studios can put out some superhero slop or another Avatar movie and make a billion dollars and that will subsidize movies like The Odyssey that potentially will lose money because they drive away audiences before the film even comes out. Think about it, who is the prime potential audience for a movie adaptation of a story from Greek mythology like Homer’s Odyssey? White men from teens through Gen X primarily. How many black women are likely to show up to see The Odyssey? How many black women in America know who Homer was or have read Odyssey or the Iliad period?
And why should they? It isn’t their history and never will be their history, just as World War II will never be black history no matter how many films about stronk blaque wahmen sorting the mail Hollywood vomits out.
As always I ask the tongue in cheek question:
Why doesn’t Hollywood make films based on the rich literary tradition of books written by Africans?
When I see this stuff, it doesn’t really make me angry. It mostly makes me laugh in derision. It must be horribly embarrassing that the history of your own people lacks any stories interesting enough to be made into films.
It wouldn’t have been hard to make a film with a reasonable cast of people that look like they could be part of a Greek epic. They did it with Troy after all which made $497 million in 2004, the equivalent of around $850 in current dollars. That is a nice profit over production costs and there isn’t a lot of diversity in the cast.
Making money isn’t the primary motivator. Cultural vandalism is what drives this crap, trying to tear down cultural markers that mostly appealed to White men. The new Star Trek show about Starfleet Academy that features a clearly homosexual Klingon who is a bird watcher and a fat retarded hologram? The only possible explanation is that they are doing this to damage the memories of what was precious to people like me.
Sadly for them the internet means I can watch better films made years ago and skip sitting through half an hour of ads in a movie theater. Download what is important to you, books and movies and music, and then back it up so they can’t take it away.
Helen of De’Toilet would also be fitting because she looks like something I flushed down this morning…If we were a sane country he(Christopher Nolan);would be put in the stocks and whipped while people threw rotten fruits and eggs at him ..

I can’t believe how disappointed I am in Nolan. Almost everything he has done to this point has been at least decent and a few of them have been exceptional. I considered him one of the best working in the film medium over the past decade.
And now this. Either he doesn’t care, is on board with the Woke, or handed casting control over to the theater kids in order to close the deal for this movie. I’m not buying the first nor the last one so the second is the inescapable conclusion.
What a letdown.
Needless to say, this cultural desecration is not going unnoticed. There is already a crusade against this movie and I predict it will do about as well as Snow White.
Any fan of Nolan (and I was one once) will notice a subtle arc to his work. His films started out 100% White (in casting, content, characterization, and script) and gradually muddied out. By 2020, he was giving us slop like “Tenet”. No thanks.
Begs the question, was Helen’s mother black? So per tradition they are saying either Leda, the queen of Sparta or Nemesis, the goddess of retribution was African? Or is it Zeus himself? The Ancient Greeks would be amused.

I remember the 1997 TV miniseries version of The Odyssey. Armand Assante made a decent Odysseus. Even back then there was affirmative action casting as Vanessa Williams played the god Calypso. Back then I called it “miscegenation with the gods.”

I understand that your phrasing is more a rhetorical device than you actually not knowing, but considering that one of Athena’s most common epithets is Glaukopis, we have a good idea that she’s very White-looking.
1. Glaukopis is variously translated “bright eyed” or “grey eyed”. Clearly what is now most associated with a Northern European phenotype. Incidentally, I know a woman with bright grey eyes. It’s quite a remarkable sight. They look like a special effect from a movie. I have been doing lots of research and reading (autism alert) on post WW2 Africa and the post colonial wars. And for those billion or so Africans (probably half that, they lie about everything) after the whites leave, forget it, there is NOTHING available. 25 year civil wars, and maybe one book in English (written by a South African), one book in Portuguese (also written by a white Portuguese) and maybe one in Russian (if it’s Angola). Written by africans? zippo. Even stuff that happened in the 70’s (Uganda, Biafra, you name it), if a white didn’t write about it, it never happened. There’s almost no documentation of any of these things that happened in black countries. Zero, none. In 20/30 years, it will be like they never happened. Not only do they not write anything, but they don’t keep anything either. So no records, no pictures, no documentation, nothing.
