According to the Alliance Police Department, Jauan L. Mason, recently moved to Alliance from Akron, entered the bank around 9:20 a.m. and claimed he had a weapon. He demanded cash and fled on foot with approximately $400 in one-dollar bills…..
….Authorities say Mason had moved to Alliance just five days before the robbery. During his arrest, he reportedly asked police to deposit the stolen cash into his jail commissary account.
This is the first bank robbery in Alliance in 15 years. Police stated that all bank robberies in the city since 2000 have been solved.
Kudos to the bank teller that was clever enough to hand him a few strapped stacks of one dollar bills. It looks like a lot of money but really isn’t and most tellers keep straps of large bills in a separate drawer specifically to keep robbers from making off with a bunch of money.
In general robbing banks is a terrible idea, you aren’t going to get duffle bags full of hundred dollar bills as banks don’t have that much cash on hand. When I managed banks you could pretty fit all of the cash in the branch in a medium sized duffle bag and most of that was small bills. Not to mention, bank robbers almost always get caught. I don’t have the statistics but I would guess bank robbery has the highest arrest rate of any crime.
I am kind of in awe of this guy, the level of obliviousness this takes is amazing. Perhaps I just think that because when your IQ is mid double digits, asking to keep the money you stole makes plenty of sense.

When i worked in a now closed branch of a bank our cash limit for the whole vranch was 74k and usually 5 of that was change.
We had an attempted robbery one time, guy demanded money and his account was NSF. He said if i didnt give it to him he’d get a machete out of his car. I said no again and he left. I jumped the counter and locked the door.
He went to his car got a machete and tried to pry open the door for 20 minutes. Cops watched him for 15 of that and waited till he gave up and drove away before they crossed the street to take a statement.
What a moron. Guy was prepared to rob a bank (where he held an account that was overdrawn), threatened a bank employee with bodily harm, even wielded a machete he had brought with him – after being locked out of the building – but then wouldn’t break a plate glass window to gain entry? What kind of half ass effort is that? Such a criminal mastermind, that own was.

Here in Ohio, this incident will ultimately cost the taxpayers about $250,000 or so. The trial, incarceration & rehab, if possible. We’ll see. By the way, that money could be used to educate an engineering student at nearby Ohio State University. Who would be more valuable in the long run?
