Britain Moving to Scrap Most Jury Trials
Why would they do that when trial by jury is one of the bedrock foundations of English jurisprudence?
The United Kingdom may implement sweeping changes that would sharply curb the right to a jury trial in England and Wales, according to an internal Ministry of Justice briefing obtained by BBC News.
Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, who is also secretary of state for the Ministry of Justice, is preparing a proposal that would guarantee jury trials only for defendants charged with rape, murder, manslaughter, or cases that meet a public interest threshold.
Most other serious offenses now handled in Crown Court would shift to a new tier of nonjury courts, a move the government says is aimed at easing record case backlogs.
The briefing outlines plans for a Crown Court Bench Division, an intermediate court where judges would hear cases alone for offenses carrying sentences of up to five years.
Lammy is seeking to go beyond recommendations made earlier this year by retired Court of Appeal Judge Sir Brian Leveson, who urged limiting jury trials to address a growing crisis in the criminal justice system.
More than 78,000 Crown Court cases are pending, and officials warn the backlog may exceed 100,000 without intervention.

If you could somehow rely on English judges to ‘do the right thing’, perhaps this would not be so bad. Swift justice for petty criminals is theoretically possible. I don’t doubt for a hot second that they are literally swamped with low-level crime cases, given that they are swamped with low-IQ foreign-born criminals. But hoping for common sense jurisprudence from the bleeding heart Leftie Lucies in their court system is a pipe dream. The revolving door will just revolve a little faster.
At one time, I wanted to visit England to see the sights – Tower Bridge, Piccadilly Circus, Stonehenge, et al. Today you couldn’t make me go there at gunpoint.
There is a non zero chance that if any of us traveled to UK, we’d be arrested for something we posted online. Now that Trump is in office, probably not happening, and even if it did, his state dept. would go to bat for you. But when it was “Biden,” or whomever comes next, then the UK probably gets the green light.

I agree with that. If its going to bring enough attention to him to satisfy his ego for a minute or get him any kind of attention he’ll do it, but doing anything that actually, really benefits or serves the best interests of those who voted him into office, not happening.
He’s got until the midterms to accomplish anything of consequence (not likely at this point). If enough congressional seats are lost, the rest of the republicans can just throw their hands in the air and/or jump in on finishing off whatever is left of “maga” at that point.
If anything is going to get fixed its going to have to be Americans. Politicans aren’t going to fix anything, save anybody, solve anything except campaign shortfalls by kissing up to aipac.

Let me tell you about Germany. Happened in 2008.
A guy named Sven G and his friend were going down a street. Sven was showing his friend a knife, that children use, blade less then one inch long and not even sharp.
Five ahem enrichers came from the opposite direction and without provocation the leader of the enrichers threw a punch that send the friend of Sven G to the ground knocked out.
Sven G was frightened and threw a punch – with the hand holding this tiny knife.
He hit. Nearly jackpot, because the guy went down and the doctors later said that one inch to the left and it would have been fatal.
Now guess, who was dragged before a court?
Yes, Sven G was charged with attempted murder. When Sven G said it was 5 against one and he mentioned the german Dominik Brunner, who had been murdered earlier by enrichers, the judge Götzl dismissed this as nazi fantasy and besides Sven G was bigger and heavier than the enricher.
So he sentenced him to nearly 4 years in prison. Only after Sven G paid nearly 13.000 Euro the the enricher and admitted that he was a racist white nazi and deserved to be attacked judge Götzl showed leniency and reduced the sentence by a few months so that Sven G could leave prison.
The enricher was never prosecuted or punished for attacking the friend of Sven G.
And judge Götzl climbed the ladder to bavarian constitutional court.
