I reserve the right to change this choice, maybe a piano will fall from the 8th story of a building and land on LeBron James, but for now? The saga of Shedeur Sanders dropping like a rock into the 5th round and then getting picked by the Cleveland Browns while their front office clapped grimly has to be one of the greatest stories in the history of sports.
While I didn’t watch him play a single down the honest evaluations are that Sanders was a college QB with a 13-12 record, a mediocre arm, questionable basic skills and is undersized. That isn’t why he dropped though as he probably possessed the skills needed to play in the NFL although lots and lots of players at every position and especially QB had the skills in college but couldn’t succeed in the NFL where every defensive player is the best of the best.
He dropped because he is an egomaniac even by the standards of professional athletes. He declares himself “legendary” before even being drafted and guaranteed to change the fortune of whichever NFL franchise was lucky enough to draft him.
Tuesday before the draft, NFL Media released a summary of the top 18 prospects in this year’s class.
Sanders’ section included testimony from an anonymous assistant coach, who said that Sanders was “The worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life. He’s so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates. . . . But the biggest thing is, he’s not that good.”

Even race hustler/sports “journalist” Stephen A. Smith admitted that there were issues.
We know this brother can play. We know about whether he doesn’t have the greatest motor or the greatest arm. The accuracy is there. The poise is there. The pedigree is there.
The pedigree? He isn’t a race horse or a championship poodle. Having a Pro Football Hall of Fame daddy doesn’t guarantee you are NFL ready. For a black quarterback he apparently isn’t all that fast and doesn’t have a cannon for an arm which is how most of them make it into the league. Being accurate is important of course but you have to have some zip on the ball or the defense is going to be running your pass back the wrong way. He won’t be playing against unranked teams with mediocre defensive backs that aren’t that great, every corner and safety he faces is going to be great and standing around too long in the pocket against an NFL pass rush is a super way to get yourself pummeled.
Despite all of that Shedeur Sanders was touted as a possible number one pick or perhaps a top 3 pick. Why? Because he was a creation of the media, his dad is Deion Sanders and he was the beneficiary of an enormous campaign of self-promotion. He tried to brag himself into being seen as a better player than he actually is. Predictably his free fall in the draft was blamed on “racism” despite the league being majority black and teams being desperate to have black QBs to virtue signal but he still dropped.
This isn’t surprising as his daddy Deion used to call himself “Prime Time” and while daddy Sanders was indeed a great defensive back and athlete, Deion Sanders is in my opinion the NFL version of Alan Iverson, the man I mostly for the ghetto-trashization of the NBA by his general thuggishness. Prime Time was paid an enormous amount of money to defend receivers and occasionally run back an interception or kick for a touchdown. He would taunt, high step and then dance in the end zone making the whole game about him. Compare that to Barry Sanders who would be the undisputed greatest running back in NFL history if he had played for a decent team….

In ten years Sanders racked up 15,269 rushing yards, the most ever in a ten year span, and would have held most of the NFL rushing records but he left while still healthy and I think it was mostly because he was tired of being on a crappy team. Notice that when Sanders broke away in the open, he ran straight on until the got in the end zone, no looking back, no taunting. He never spiked the ball that I recall and he often seemed to be looking for the ref to give the ball to. He epitomized the old saying attributed to Joe Paterno, when you get into the end zone, act like you have been there before.
Back to Shitheadeur Sanders. Despite an AstroTurfed attempt to convince people he was the best player in the draft, his considerable talent was not enough for most teams to waste a high pick on someone who was likely to be locker room cancer.

While I sometimes feel kinda bad for the guys that sit there with cameras in their face and wait while their name isn’t called, not in this case. He deserved every bit of it, even the kids who prank called him pretending to be the GM of the New Orleans Saints. Act like an insufferable asshat and you are likely to get a load of shit in return. I doubt this will do anything to humble him but the first couple of times an NFL defensive end crushes him might.
That is enough about sports but seeing this pompous douchebag humiliated was so delightful that it transcended sports.
WAIT FOR IT. When he does not make the team with Cleveland the cries of racisms will be epic.

The thing is that teams TOLERATED Deion’s BS because he was an elite player.
Even still his act wore thin and multiple teams showed him the door and he bounced around the league.
Shedeur ISN’T his Daddy and does not have his Daddy’s talent yet he has the same arrogance.
Apparently teams said it was the worst interview in decades.
He was entitled, telling the team what THEY were going to do for HIM, how they were going to change their offense to one he liked, etc.
He was such an ahole combined with his lack of talent that most teams pulled him entirely from their draft boards.
Shadeur, entitled and arrogant to the extreme believes that HE should have been the 1st pick instead of Cam Ward and gotten millions.
Instead he is getting a couple of hundred grand a year and a coupon at Wendys.
Honestly him having to eat the whole pie of humble pie is good for him.
He’s now a 5th round pick who has to EARN his roster spot and any BS he’ll be cut in an instant.
I really think the rumors of the NFL owners deciding to let him fall to teach him and his Daddy a lesson might be true.
The kid DESPERATELY needed some humble pie and now he’s not given shit, he’s gotta earn it.
If he start’s that “Prime Legendary” BS, he’s done and no other NFL team will sign him.
I forgot how many teams Deion played for until I looked him up while writing this post, and say what you will the guy was an elite cover man (although not much for tackling)

I was watching the UFC last night and the stream was doing the ESPN news crawl at the bottom and it kept posting this name was picked 5th round, blah blah blah and not following football anymore I really had no idea who he was.

Also, I appreciate Matt Walsh’s comment on the matter. I’ve managed lots and lots of people over the years. I told many people “you ain’t good enough to be that big of an ass-ache”. You’ve got to either be really, really good at what you do, or you have to learn how to behave like a mature human being. You can’t be marginal AND a pain in the ass. But then when you get good enough every day is easy and there’s nothing to be an asshole about anyway…
