The killer and victim are as predictable as you could imagine. The slain student was a 17 year old White kid named Austin Metcalf, he had what appeared to be a lot going for him: “Jeff Metcalf said his son had a 4.0, was MVP of the football team and had a bright future that included going to college”.
Meanwhile his killer is one Karmelo Anthony, not to be confused with former NBA star Carmelo Anthony. As you can probably tell from the picture and his actions, ol’ Karmelo here did not have a bright future. I am surprised he could figure out which end of the knife to hold, maybe he just got lucky. It is reasonable to assume Karmelo Anthony was headed for a lifetime in and out of prison but skipped ahead to murder.
A reasonable person might ask why a 17 year old yoof has a knife at a track meet but a more reasonable person stops asking why 2Gs behave the way they do.
What was it that set this 2G scholar-athlete-yoof off? Did the White kid call him a nigger, the universal excuse for blacks to commit violence? No, something far, far worse.
Jeff Metcalf spoke with NBC 5 Tuesday afternoon and said his son, Austin Metcalf, was killed when another student armed with a knife got upset after being told he was sitting in the wrong spot.
Damn son, being asked to move? That def is reason enough to stab someone. We all were 17 once and when you are 17 the hormones are raging. I was pretty much angry, hungry and horny 24-7 in my teens so I can imagine the conversation was perhaps a bit tense but so what? I did notice that the victim, Austin Metcalf, is a district recognized middle linebacker listed at 6 foot tall and 225 pounds so that might be part of the reason. As a rule 2Gs only like to “fight” when they are much larger than their opponent, or much younger, or outnumber them or attack them by surprise. It is rare to see one on one even fights. Tangling with a 225 pound 17 year old athlete is a bit much to handle so instead stab him and go to prison for the rest of your natural life. That is 2G logic. Bringing the knife would indicate premeditation on the part of Karmelo although if I was his attorney I would point to him and ask the jury “does he look smart enough to think ahead?”.

I have Christian friends who disagree with me (and they are, genuinely, ‘better’ Christians than I, so perhaps they are right and I am wrong) but I feel like God, Himself, makes repentance a requirement for forgiveness—not just the willingness to forgive others. Both are requirements.
I pray that I will never have to deal with someone like this, but if I do, there’s no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t feel any forgiveness for someone who felt no remorse. I’m sure that finding that forgiveness would be difficult, if not impossible, even if true remorse existed, but that is the only condition under which I would feel obligated to try.
On another note, you can’t divine a whole scenario from one photo, but if I was going to try, based on Karmelo’s mugshot, I’d say that it started to dawn on him pretty quickly that the reality of his whole life, going forward, had just been determined by one moment. Lack of impulse control sometimes doesn’t bite us in the ass or cause the damage to others that it could have. But sometimes it does.
Did a quick internet search and saw some claims that Austin was the aggressor—did more than simply ‘tell’ Karmelo he was in the wrong seat. More details will come out, and it’s certainly possible; I’ve seen my share of teenage athletes who, despite how good they looked on paper, were a$$holes.

Re not liking what you said, I’m not sure exactly what the point of contention is supposed to be, as I said, myself, that it doesn’t make any difference whether Austin was the aggressor or not; he was killed and there was no justification for it. So of course I am “on his side.”

There are two possible, general scenarios here (and perhaps one of them is already emerging – I have not looked recently. The kid was either a little gangster already, with a rap sheet and nothing good going for him, or he was a kid who hadn’t already gotten in a whole lot of trouble, who had a knife with him for some foolish reason, an altercation erupted and he used it, which he wouldn’t have been able to do, if he hadn’t brought it. He’s still fully responsible, in either case.

FWIW Frisco has more locusts from blue cities than anywhere else around here. Ten years ago, or so, you started seeing a lot of blacks migrating there, as well as Plano.
