The big happenings in the gun world have to do with the sort-of, depending on several factors, partial overturning of the National Firearms Act or NFA. The NFA is the law that regulates suppressors (“silencers”), short-barreled rifles (SBRs) and short-barreled shotguns (SBSs) among other stuff.

As I understand this, living in Indiana which is a state in the green column, I could take a Palmetto State Armory lower with a stock and put an 11.5” upper on it and be compliant, but I could not do the same with an Aero Precision lower.
Kudos to Brandon Herrera, the AK Guy, for having a suppressor transferred to him without the NFA form at 12:01 AM when the challenge window expired. I am looking forward to seeing what he will do in Congress.
The ATF has been pretty silent on the whole thing, and I don’t think it is malice but sheer confusion on their part. I don’t think they know what to do and Trump has (for a change) gotten actively involved and directed the DOJ to not challenge this ruling. What that means is still up in the air but what would be ideal is for Congress to just repeal the NFA completely, which it could have done in the Big Beautiful Bill but that provision was killed by certain traitorous elements in the GOP.
John Wick films notwithstanding, as I assume my readers all know, suppressors make a firearm quieter but not silent, especially if you are not using sub-sonic ammo. Rather than a soft pfut sound like you hear in the movies, they just reduce the report of the firearm which is beneficial to your ears. The number of suppressors used in actual crimes has to be a miniscule number, they are expensive and they make a pistol a lot harder to conceal, so they aren’t more of a threat.
SBRs also are not more dangerous, especially on the scary AR-15 where the shorter barrel means you are losing velocity. Of course rifles of any sort are rarely used in crimes anyway.
You can’t deny that we have had a lot of small wins over the last decade, from the widespread adoption of “permitless concealed carry” to the Bruen decision to this gutting of the NFA. That hasn’t stopped some people on social media from bitching because they didn’t get everything they wanted right now. More importantly, this window of what I called The Golden Age Of Gun Buying back in 2019 has a shelf life and all of these wins can be rolled back with days of Democrats taking control over the Congress and White House.
Enjoy it while it lasts and buy with an eye toward that future when things won’t be so golden.

I admit to two things on this topic. First, I had a suppressor on order by 9:30 am last Thursday (I’m in TN). Second, I’m a little confused by these wins. Perhaps it’s that I’m so jaded by the Gay old Party selling us out that it’s hard to imagine we’re actually putting W’s on the board. But I also understand that the ruling parasite class–two or three levels above the actors playing CONgress weasles–*really* doesn’t want an armed populous. Thus, these gains on our side are curious.
Interestingly, Silencer Shop’s online system still wanted me to update my photo and still shows all my info as if they are doing a Form 4, even though the order confirmation says, “Since there are no NFA items in your order, we don’t need that.” Makes me wonder if even they were surprised at the result and didn’t have the systems updated. I know their website was under HEAVY load Thursday morning.
As you say, enjoy it while it lasts. I’ll probably pick up 2-3 more cans over the course of the year and see how it plays out.
The removal of the tax stamp fee was all that could be done without 60 votes in the Senate, which the Rs do not have and could not get.
(Well, without removing the filibuster which Thune obviously will not do.)
This court decision is the expected result.
Prediction: there will be no legislation repealing the NFA.
We will be fortunate indeed if the DOJ nationalizes the decision so that it applies to everyone everywhere and not just the plaintiffs. It will be interesting to see what other nuggets are tossed out for the peasants considering how underwater the Rs are for the midterms (and deservedly so).

A fellow traveler has a few Class III wepps and he clearly enjoys them immensely. He also has suppressors for several of his semi-auto handguns (mainly Glocks).
He has tried to get me to purchase the latter for many years. I resist because I do not want the extra scrutiny that comes with a Form 4 purchase–and the degrading supplication that is implied by having to get the local sheriff’s signature on a fkn piece of paper–especially if he’s an asshole (most are, IMO).
My counter-suppressor argument (which pisses my friend off immensely [my secondary gain, as it were]) is to state, when a commando Op requires suppressed fire, that I will use a 16 oz plastic Coke bottle for my first (stealthy) shot, or, in a pinch, a small sweet potato jammed onto the muzzle of my Go-To HG of Choice.
Kids, don’t try the above at home because 1. microplastics and 2. messy and 3. never intentionally jam a muzzle, turning a handgun into a hand grenade! *
* My Youtube research indicates that even a .22 projectile will blow clean through any species of yam or spud of one’s choice. Though please see #3, above.

Sometime during the 1970s in a place not America, my friend experimented with .45ACP in 12-gauge shotguns.

My friend fabricated aluminum (‘7075’) shotgun adapters aka chamber reducers aka shotgun inserts.
Dimensionally, these were identical to a standard shotgun cartridge.

My friend cut an internal groove for an easily replaceable O-ring to help hold the .45 cartridge in-place.
According to my friend, depending on O-ring material, these can last through years of regular use.
A dental-pick was already part of the cleaning kit, so that served double-duty for occasional O-ring replacement.

The way I heard it, these fed through a tube magazine as reliably as any shotgun shells.

Extensive testing over several decades tended to indicate adequate durability.
Utterly recoilless and silent, my friend reports testers frequently initially question the weapon firing…
…then, after the airborne travel time, their puzzlement is replaced by a satisfied smile by the slug impact on steel.

Tests out to as long as 100-yards (probably nearing the limits of the .45 cartridge) suggest 10x-for-10 is easily achievable by pretty much anybody.

The Astute Observer wonders if similar adapter/reducers could produce similar results with other sub-sonic cartridges such as .410 slugs or the .45-70 family.
Especially interesting would be designed sub-sonic cartridges such as .300blackOut and .450Bushmaster, although they might require hand-feeding into a single-shot shotgun.
