A Texas judge denied Karmelo Anthony a new trial on Saturday, after his attorneys argued that courtroom restrictions, hearings held without Anthony present and the handling of an unwritten agreement between his former lawyers and prosecutors violated his rights.
Retired District Judge Michael Chitty denied Anthony’s request after reviewing the motion, court record, evidence and arguments, briefs and relevant case law, according to his order. The order did not detail his reasoning for the decision.
The decision leaves Anthony’s murder conviction and 35-year prison sentence in place. His challenge will continue on direct appeal.

That’s an interesting take, and I could see that actually being the case, knowing how badly corrupted the judiciary is. Either way, now that the appeal has been attempted and denied), the new evidence has come to light anyway. With that, he’s pretty well shit outta luck if the case ends up back in court.
He is just left with appeals and I don’t see those going anywhere, lots of paperwork but Karmelo stays in jail.
There were a lot of people saying a retrial with the damning evidence might have gotten him life instead of 35 years

We have a two tiered justice system in this country but it is not evenly applied based on location. He was, typically, too dumb to understand that.
