Rappers Try to Stop a Black Texas Man’s Execution Based on His Song Lyrics
Rappers are banding together to advocate for a Texas man set to be executed next month largely due to his incriminating song lyrics.
Largely due….to his incriminating song lyrics? Well that doesn’t sound right, I wonder if the headline isn’t really giving us the whole picture….
James Broadnax, a Black [sic] man, was only 19 when he was accused of killing two white [sic] men during a robbery in Garland, Texas, TMZ reported. He was convicted in 2009 by a mostly white [sic] jury. The jury sentenced him to death, marking the first time song lyrics have resulted in such a sentence.
Oh. Talk about burying the lede….
The two men Broadnax murdered don’t even get mentioned in the article. They were Christian music producers: Stephen Swan, 26, and Matthew Butler, 28. Of course they were White men and that is why The Root doesn’t consider them worthy of mention.
They were murdered for $2 and a 14 year old car…

According to previous reporting from The Dallas Morning News, Broadnax and an accomplice also robbed Swan and Butler the night of the shooting, leaving with only $2 in cash and a 1995 Ford.
“I murdered them both,” Broadnax, then 19, told reporters at the time. “No hesitation or nothing.”
At trial, defense attorneys examined whether the confessions given to the media — or Broadnax’s actions — were intentional because he had used marijuana laced with PCP and embalming fluid.

Prosecutors said Broadnax sometimes laughed during the victims’ statements.
“I lost my first born son when he was only 26 years old,” Swan’s tearful mother, Jean, told the courtroom’s audience after the sentence was announced….
….“You stole our son,” his mother, Theresa, told Broadnax. “It would have been better if you would have never been born. Smile and laugh if you think that’s funny.”
Elsewhere Broadnax admitted he was actively seeking someone to rob and kill.

“Texas rapper Travis Scott and his lawyer, Alex Spiro, filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court. He argued that using rap lyrics in court damages public perception of rap as a genre.
The prosecutors argued Mr. Broadnax was likely to be dangerous in the future simply because he engaged in ‘gangster rap.’”
Gee Wally, I think the reason Broadnax is considered likely to be dangerous was not “simply” because he glorified violence in his “lyrics” but because he had already killed two men in cold blood for the fun of it. A little more and then I will move on…
Howard University professor Erik Nielson and Killer Mike told the court, “This case exemplifies the racial prejudice that infects a criminal proceeding when the State uses a defendant’s rap lyrics to capitalize on anti-rap bias, the misinterpretation of rap lyrics, and anti-Black [sic] bias triggered by rap music.”
They say artistic expression should not be criminalized, no matter the medium or circumstance. “The State used Broadnax’s artistic expression to portray him as a young Black [sic] super-predator without redeeming qualities who must be executed to protect the community,” they continued.
Hey maybe they portrayed him as a “young black super-predator” is because that is precisely what he is and the proof of that is not “rap lyrics” but the two men he murdered for shits and giggles?
This is standard procedure for subs. No matter what they do, no matter how heinous their actions and behavior, none of that matters because whenever a black is found guilty of a crime it is because of “racism”.
It is a terrible and lethal combination: a propensity for violence, a lack of impulse control, low IQ and a steadfast refusal to take any responsibility for their actions.
Stephen Swan and Matthew Butler, two White men who by all appearances were great people that hadn’t done anything to anyone, have been dead now for 16 years and finally one of their killers is poised to get what he has coming to him. Despite being a poster boy for capital punishment, James Broadnax is receiving fanatical support from his people because he not only killed two men but he also seemed to take a great deal of pleasure in doing so.
The entire race is absolutely irredeemable.

One of the problems with so called “capital punishment” is that it takes years, and years, and years to be fulfilled. As Ron White said about Texas is that we need an “express lane” to get the sentence done. No more farting around. Have the criminal in the grave in under a year, tops. I’m not holding out any hope an expedited sentencing and execution policy are going to happen anytime soon.

I am OK with a year, maybe giving judges the discretion to impose the death sentence with a 12 month period to present evidence to sustain an appeal but also the ability to call for an immediate execution. In the case of this nig they should have taken him out back as soon as the gavel slammed and strung him up

I think the death penalty is too lenient, you get strapped to an comfy gurney and then gently sedated till your heart stops beating. How about this instead, convict does life like they do at ‘The Black Dolphin’, but their family and its supporters has to pay for the convicts food and rent for the cell. Food is tasteless mush that has the minimum of nutes to sustain life…one bowl an day! No books, no teevee, no mattress, nothing.
