Maybe having elderly people who can’t walk running the country isn’t a great idea….
The dude is 83 years old and can’t make it to the door without help. You can see him starting to veer off as soon as he let go of the aide’s arm, he almost ran into the goofy chick asking him the dumb question. He has fallen before and also will suddenly freeze up in mid-sentence….
This seems less than optimal to me.
McConnell is finally going to retire, not seeking re-election in the midterms next year which is a relief, but honestly this guy should have been retired a long time ago.
True story, back in 1996 I was thinking about getting a job in D.C. and was doing some interviews around town. I left one of the Senate office buildings and arriving at the same time was Senator Strom Thurmond. Thurmond was born in 1902 so at this point he was around 94 years old and still a U.S. Senator from South Carolina.
He was getting out of his chauffeured car and looked at his driver and asked “Where’s my tie?”. His driver pointed out that his tie was around his neck, untied but clearly around his neck. The driver sounded like this wasn’t the first time he had been asked a similar question from the Senator. At this time Thurmond at a doddering 94 years old was also the President pro tempore of the United States Senate, a position most people have never heard of, but that also meant that he was (unable to locate the tie around his neck at 94) third in the line of succession for the Presidency behind Vice President Al Gore and Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
Holy cats.
According to Grok the average age of a U.S. Senator is 64 but there are a few fairly young Senators that bring that average down a bit. At 64 you are eligible for (reduced) Social Security and are at the age when most people are entering retirement. The media age is 64.7 so half of all Senators are older than 64.
If you want an argument against “democracy” and popular voting in a Republic, Mitch McConnell is Exhibit A. The dude could have run again next year, easily won the primary and just as easily won another 6 year term but he can’t walk on his own.
Perhaps letting every single person in the country have a vote isn’t the best way to run a country after all….
term limits
repeal the 17th amendment
this would fix a lot of the problems
if up to me it would be 2 terms
1 in office
1 in prison
Repeal the 19th while we’re at it. Democrats grasp on power would thereby be devastated, but then we’d still be stuck with useless republican’ts.
And to hell with mitch the bitch, that two faced, turtle looking chucklefuck.
The 19th will be the death of America
Along with Hart-Cellar. Of course it’s less likely that act would’ve even emerged to be passed without all the emotionally manipulable women voting for representatives and senators.
I’m going to assign the voters some blame here Charlie. Term limits are given a chance every 2 years in the House and every 6 years in the Senate, but they keep on sending the same ole bastards back. TBF the primary system is often (usually?) rigged against “insurgents,” so you’re left with a choice between the conservacuck and some pink haired radical in the general. And I have no doubt that McConnell has been the beneficiary (ringleader?) of such rigging in Kentucky. The Sodomite of South Carolina has also been the repeated winner of similar rigged primaries, in which the GOP floods the zone with ringers to dilute the “insurgent” vote. Just to name two.
Thus, term limits would be of limited utility, because the primaries to select the new guys would be just as rigged. The onus is on the voters to coalesce behind non establishment candidates and educate themselves enough to know who they are. Good luck with that
We have term limits already in the form of elections, so you are 100% correct
Let them eat neck meat.
Graffiti in Mitch’s neighborhood during shutdown kabuki.
Shit, they were rolling out Dianne Feinstein onto the floor when she was a barely animated corpse. Nothing new here.
I think she might have actually been dead
By the tail end of her time there, she looked like the crypt keeper from Tales of Crypt.
Dessicated prunes like Pelosi and McConnell at one end. Clueless AA electees like AOC and “the squad” at the other. Congress is a sewer of grifting rats, getting rich despite earning a salary that is less than a public school teacher makes in New York. The system is broken beyond repair. Admitting stronk, independent (feminist) women to the club just broke it more.
We term-limited Dewine in ohio, and he’s just spent his whole career playing musical chairs with different offices to thwart the term limits.
That little bastard.. Words on the internet can’t convey how useless he is, or how much I loath him.
Remember the last decade of the Soviet Union? A bunch of really old guys who basically died as soon they were appointed Secretary General? That were still living in the past and collecting their grift while everyone else was just ignoring them?
Good thing nothing like that could happen here.
We should be so lucky to meet the fate of the USSR; to wake up one morning and discover the dysfunctional, shitty government no longer exists, and with time to have a strong leader (Putin) emerge to kick out the assholes looting the country and begin the process of restoring the cultural, industrial and economic strength for the benefit of the nations citizens. I don’t think our outcome here looks anything like that. If nothing else, we have a demographic disaster that Russia didn’t, having now been overrun with culturally incompatible third world invading detritus.
If we can do it without the USSR’s 300% inflation count me in. Before you say gold, remember what FDR did. If the day comes that you really need the gold, they won’t let you use it.
Saw today that Chuck Grassley is 93. 93!!!!!!! Yet one more reason I don’t follow politics and won’t vote. Even if elections were clean and only legitimate US citizens (no magic dirt ones) voted, and even if those votes were tabulated honestly . . . people are still STUPID. They keep voting the same old f**ks back into office. Just as they keep sending their kids to public schools, and insisting that their schools/church/alien neighbor is wonderful. The founders (who were not saints) did not believe in the universal franchise, and the states initially restricted it in many commonsense ways. But with muh magic equality, Whites are damned fools about everyone ‘having a voice.’
Biggest traitor who ever lived with a “republican” name tag.
Yup. Need a max age in there. But they can’t give up the power.
