There are stories floating around about people getting dumber. I figure a lot of it is creating the backstory in support of Trump’s plan to dismantle the Department of “Education” but it is impossible to argue that the population as a whole isn’t getting dumber. What apparently is in dispute is the “why”. Here is a prime normiecon take:

Even compared to something as recent as the 2010s, intelligence markers like basic comprehension, reasoning, and problem solving have taken a dive.
As the article points out, it isn’t just reading and basic comprehension but also math skills. What could be the cause? Here is the typical normiecon take:

But social media isn’t the only thing that changed between the 2010s and today. There’s also been a concerted effort to lower the standards in education in the name of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (AKA Marxism).

Don’t get me wrong, no one will match my disdain for the public school system. I despise it now and I despised it when I was in school, sitting at a desk bored out of my skull, never challenged and not learning a damn thing (and that includes college). Nor will you get an argument from me that the standards of education have diminished and that most of what passes for “education” is poorly disguised neo-Bolshevik propaganda. So those are not insignificant factors but then again the Soviet Union still produced scientists, chess champions and brilliant writers. The real reason that dares not speak it’s name is found in this chart:

You cannot go from a nation that is 85% White to one that is 60% White and expect the same academic results. The percentage of blacks is about the same but the percentage of mestizos has exploded. To be sure, mestizos are not as dumb as blacks but they are also nowhere close to the same level of average intelligence as Whites. The slowly increasing Asian population is made up of a lot of Indian subcontinent types who are also not all that bright. To summarize:
The problem is not so much what is being taught and how it is being taught but rather who is being taught.
There isn’t a curriculum change that will overcome biological realism. Even if you had nothing but devout White Christian virgin women with no tattoos with 125 IQs that attended Hillsdale teaching using 1950s curriculum materials, it wouldn’t make much of a difference overall. White and East Asian kids would do much better but while there would be an improvement for blacks and especially mestizos, it still wouldn’t change the results to match what schools were like when America was 85% White. If you put a copy of the Ten Commandments on every desk and started each day with half an hour of prayer it won’t stop blacks from attacking each other or their teachers.
Normies think the problem is that schools teach “critical race theory” and not that the demographic mix in our schools has changed dramatically away from a White supermajority. People on the dissident right understand that biology trumps methodology. That is the Great Divide on the political right, those who think based on what they wish were true and those who base their thinking on what is actually true.
As immigration and low White birth rates continues to transform America from a European based society into one with third world demographics, education results will continue to plummet. Closing the Department of Education is the right thing to do but it won’t stem the tide. I doubt anything can help now short of some kind of major calamity. On the bright side, if you are White you and your children are going to be smarter than the rest of your countrymen. Of course being the smartest kid in the special ed class isn’t really something to brag about.

I was bitching and moaning about 2Gs and their low value as potential employees to a good bud some years ago and his response was, “it’s just more heads to step on”.
I appreciated the remark and it keeps things in perspective when I’m frustrated.
There is something to be said for that but get enough of them in the workforce and you have to not only make up for their incompetence but there is a decent chance one will chimp out and shoot you.

My grandmother was a teacher from the 40s through the 70s, she even taught at a traditionally black college. She was capable of educating the ones that wanted to be educated. Teachers today are worthless fucking tards, even in the 80s and 90s they were worthless fucking tards, my grandmother would tell me so when i would see her on the weekend and she would ask what i learned in school that week. The problem is public education is captured from top to bottom by the teacher’s union(s), from university admin and professors all the way down to kindergarten and preschool teachers. Just like modern journalists, they view their primary job as “advocacy” not education, turning the entire public school system into an indoctrination system for neo-Bolshevik (excellent term) propaganda, just as the Frankfurt School intended. And it is all funded with taxpayer money.

If you are going to do anything politically active at a state level, push and support a voucher system so parents can take the taxpayer money to whatever school they want and let competition do the work. I do think that the quality of the skools makes a difference. While the 2G’s wouldn’t perform any better regardless of the quality of the education, there’s no doubt that the current dumbed-down education system is dragging down the intellectual abilities of Whites. And for that reason alone I’m up for dumping the DOE, the teacher’s unions, and all of the associated bullshit. In scanning my Facebook feed, I just saw someone spazzing out about the idea of getting rid of the DOE because “her daughter is trans and in Special Ed, and the DOE funds those programs.” Well, bitch, if you were a decent mom instead of out riding the cock carousel, your daughter might be sane and you wouldn’t need them. This shit is insane.
I might be having yet another “captain obvious” moment, but that “special education” business is mostly a scam.
Anecdotally, I’d guess about one-in-twenty is actually, truly a special needs child. Most of the participants are “recruited” and “diagnosed” by (nearly all women) “special ed teachers” to swell the ranks of their classes in order to garner more funding.
My brother in law suffered the overtures of the special ed department in high school in a fairly well to do district and it was repeatedly suggested to him that he was “special needs” and that “he should be and would benefit from being in special education”. He declined. He now makes in excess of 200K per year designing software for other companies’ training programs. He had a buddy that succumbed to their overtures, and my brother in law claimed it basically ruined his life. Barely employable at this point.
You make a very good point, in general, although I doubt the Special Ed teachers themselves can make diagnoses. I quit teaching 20 years ago but I expect it’s the same as it was then, which was usually the regular classroom teacher suggesting to the parent that special education classes were needed, so the parent took the kid to a psychologist who made the diagnosis.
In some cases, special ed classes _are_ appropriate. In others, it’s parents wanting good grades at any cost, or it’s a classroom teacher wanting a disruptive kid to be someone else’s problem. I believe that a disproportionate number of special ed students are boys, which is unsurprising. Being able to sit still and follow rules are big components of a ‘successful’ school career, and girls are generally better at that, so shunting anyone difficult into special ed is a temptation for frustrated teachers and parents.
Problem is that special ed becomes a one-size-fits-all solution, like much else in education, and rather than targeting specific learning disabilities and maintaining high standards everywhere else, it just makes _everything_ easier for the kid, so he will “succeed.”
I knew one boy who had a genuine disability (can’t remember the details, but it was visual-spatial in nature, and caused lots of problems with math and organization) but who was exceptionally bright. He had had special ed services in middle school, to little noticeable effect other than that allowances were made for lateness and so on, allowances that he quickly learned to exploit.
Luckily, he and his parents decided to forgo the program in high school, and while he still had to cope with the very real difficulties presented by the learning disability, he also learned to compensate for them. He went on to take several Advanced Placement classes in other areas, was admitted to and graduated from an excellent grad school, and is a very successful adult. I doubt things would have turned out the same way, if he’d been pushed and pulled across the finish line in high school by well-meaning teachers.
Perhaps not a great deal of harm is caused by having slow students in special ed, but a great deal of harm is done to those with high intellect.

I would add that a short employment stint in a local (one building) school district, I personally witnessed the “recruitment” part. A lot. Probably 20% of the enrollment K-12 was interacting with the special ed department on some basis, but there were a handful of students that were clearly in need of special needs treatment.
Additionally, our son has (numerous) traits of Asperger’s Syndrome. He was “diagnosed” in school and we did a great deal of reading about Asperger’s before we consented to “special ed”. Like you mentioned, mostly they made allowances for his quirks, odd behaviors and shortcomings which he was very quick to take advantage of. He was never seen by anyone outside the school for his situation. It was years ago, so I don’t remember if any of the faculty on staff was an actual clinician for disability. He’s super smart and does high level math in his head without paper-like that kind of Aspy, but I’d say developmentally that throwing fence and cleaning barn stalls and bucking hay did more for his development and learning how to function (planning and organizing work, working with others, etc) than some skirt with a head full of theory ever did.

I understand where you are coming from, and I am sure that it IS that way in many places with gubmit school.
And to be sure: I am NOT defending the teacher unions.
And I AM overjoyed at the prospect of the DOE being shut down.
But just to offer some perspective on SPED classification:
It’s a complex thing, SOMETIMES.
Only because –let’s rememebr– most of the public school students are getting jabbed up with aluminum etc. at birth, then eating crap food, coupled with poor discipline at home. And all of that includes non-huwhyte kids.
So they’re already coming in to first grade with issues.
I agree with your “1 in 20” suspicion.
But at my school, they are not “recruited.”
The issues I mention above are largely the reason for the obvious issues. In some cases we actually have trouble getting them classified for SPED needs, even if the pre-K kid is nearly a vegetable. (I wish I were kidding.)
I work part time at a gubmit school in a major and wealthy area, and still we see these problems. I completely agree with ALL that Art wrote above. (Does that make me a sleeper agent?)
So I’m not here to disagree. Jsut to offer “stories from the trenches.”
AND – I hasten to add that I was with a 2nd gr class yesterday and had a great day with them (sub).
Why?
Because there was only a 2G who was Half “G” in there. (And even at that, I had to pay a small 2G tax.)
But by and large, it was a good day. Because: No 2Gs. What a surprise.

KEEP YOUR KIDS OUT OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS, OF COURSE, AND ABOVE ALL KEEP THEM OUT OF SPECIAL ED.
The 13-grade education system is a straightjacket that fits no one well. Some students just suffer more or less than others, and virtually all of them would be better off if certain realities—those you mention—were not taboo subjects. As it is, they can’t even be talked about, much less acknowledged or addressed.
Take math: some students (of every race, but as you note, the percentages will vary noticeably by race) are just not capable of mastering what is traditionally a 12-year mathematics curriculum. Some will never be able to master—or perhaps even begin to comprehend the fundamentals of—algebra, never mind geometry or calculus. Some could complete the 1-6 curriculum in half the time, some might need a full 12 years to achieve the same level of proficiency. This kind of skills-based learning, e.g., solving equations based on memorized formulas, should be pretty adaptable to an individually paced progression, but no. There’s a first grade curriculum that leads to a second grade one, etc., so any kid who needs more time doesn’t get it and pretty much flounders from then on, and brighter kids are bored to tears. It’s a stupid way to go about it, and partly they do it that way because the education field isn’t particularly crammed with the brightest minds, but they also do it that way because the end result would be a disproportionate share of minority students in the more modest achievement categories, and a disproportionate share of white and Asian students mastering the higher maths.
Can’t have that, even though it would be to every student’s benefit. Wouldn’t it be better to have a kid who was incapable of understanding fractions at least get out of school being able to do basic arithmetic competently, even if it took years to accomplish, than it would be to have him/her float through years of math classes that are beyond their comprehension, and emerge at the end being capable of literally nothing?

I was astonished to learn just how much “school” has changed since I was a lad, or even since my children were young. In the local middle school there are no lockers. No lockers! I asked a neighbor kid where he put his textbooks, and he floored me by stating that they don’t use textbooks anymore. Everything is on ‘media’.
Every kid is issued a tablet, where all work is performed, including homework, if any is ever assigned. If they need hardcopy materials, they use them in class and the materials stay in the classroom. Every kid gets off the bus wearing a backpack, but I have no idea what’s in it. And they have to carry them around with them all day long.
No P.E. No shop class. No outlet for youthful male energy. No summer reading assignments. No cursive writing. No logarithms (dey be raciss, yo). The boys are all drugged into docile submission so the nice lady teachers can have an easier time of it. American history is so blackwashed that the kids learn that blacks built this country from the ground up, despite being enslaved by evil, stupid Whites.
We put our kids through Catholic schools, and it was the best investment we ever made. But I don’t know if I would trust them anymore, either.
And, from what I have heard, many of these students cannot tell time on an analog clock. If those digits aren’t flashing in neon colors these kids haven’t a clue!
It is the parents’ responsibility to educate their children, not the government’s. When settler communities wanted organized, communal schooling for their progeny, they collectively hired a teacher. This teacher had no ‘teacher training’ classes and no ‘education’ degree. She simply had to prove – via examination – that she knew and understood the subjects (English/Math/History) that she was teaching. She was paid by those who had students in the school – often in kind, via room and board.
Most teachers today have plenty of credentials and minimal actual intellectual qualifications. Education majors have, in general, the lowest IQs and GPAs of any college group. This includes Christian schools, as they have all jumped on the bandwagon of magic “certified” teachers. They have gone through the same education and DEI classes as public school teachers. They believe in the same ‘cooperative learning’ and group work. They teach to the same lowest common denominator. We’ve lived it and dealt with it. We went through our son’s new ‘reading book” (prior lower school principal had kids reading actual books, not DEI selections in ‘reading’ books) page by page – and showed the Headmaster example after example of girl bosses beating boys, of the White blond boy being rayciss, etc. ad nauseam. Again – this was a Christian publisher’s ‘reading book’ for Christian schools. To no avail – it was what the brand new, young female teachers had chosen, and would be fine. We and our money left the school (which subsequently closed).
And, with all due respect to those with ‘special needs kids.’ It is not society’s collective responsibility to accommodate every exception. One of my kids was lightyears ahead of his peers; the other is an extremely slow processor of information. Neither was perfectly served – even via private Christian schools. Same principle behind banning peanuts and mandating wheelchair ramps in every circumstance. Same basic foolish fantasy of muh equality. Kids can be socialized in many ways, all of them better than communal public schooling.
Homeschool. Raise and educate your children yourself – that’s your job, women – not to be girl bosses and office cubicle workers. Stop outsourcing your most important responsibility. Most parents have decided all their kids are worth is government schools and minimum wage daycare ‘workers.’ We struggled along on one income for years because we would not subject our kids to either. We didn’t take vacations and cruises. We didn’t get the newest and latest tech and toys. Yes, it was damned difficult and we incurred plenty of debt – and our kids are far from perfect – but they didn’t spend 12 hours a day in the ‘care’ of paid strangers.
Once a person is deprogrammed and understands that there are basic genetic differences, it all makes sense.
