Yesterday was a crazy day revolving around putting up hay in the barn for the winter. We still probably need more little square bales plus some larger round bales but it is always a good feeling to have your winter fodder put aside when it is only mid June. Like the old proverbs constantly remind us, those that survive prepare for the lean times when times are good. We have found ourselves short of hay in the winter in the past and paying $7-8 per bale, more than double what we could have paid in summer, so we avoid that when we can.
I’ll be back to regular posting tonight or tomorrow, we are still in recovery mode around her.
Haying is one of the best times of the year…and it’s a form of solar energy that can be efficiently stored and used later! You going to get one crop or two this year?
We don’t raise the hay ourselves, we barter with an Amish friend for it. We put up probably 350-400 bales, I would like a couple hundred more.
First Cutting here in the Warrenton VA area, maybe a Week later than we should’ve because of Rain, doing Round Bales to feed the Cowz. Grass is so Thick I get maybe 100 Yards and the Baler is ready to Dump another one. Tractor is Air-Conditioned, too. The Horses stand around, wondering why Work is being done…. these lazy 4-legged Tick Magnets are about 4 Generations removed from knowing what “Work” is.
Hay is way behind here and most of the Amish guys are using horse-drawn mowers, they were really struggling. The horses around here know what work is, most of them love being in harness.
The amish engage in Cruelty to Animals. There is a (quite wealthy) Widow around here who takes in ‘Rescued’ Horses, mostly those taken by Court Order from negligent owners. The Worst victims come from ‘amish’ Farms in Western Maryland, Draft Horses that have been Beaten, Underfed, no Veterinary care. Often they have Nasty Scars from the Draft Gear, partially (or completely) Blind from being Whipped on the Face.
Now that they are Freed from the Abuse, they are some of the Friendliest Animals I have ever seen. I would take in some of them, if I had the Space and Time for them. YMMV about the ‘amish’, but I have No Respect for people who are ‘religiously afraid’ of modern Machinery.
Making hay is a construct of the white male patriarchy. (/s)
Ever so “historic” cargo cult drones will deliver an equal portion to each comrade of the glorious New Civility hive collective in the spirit of equality of results for all.
All of those people who warned us that the hammer and sickle would fly, hoisted by our own homegrown quisling traitors were right.
H/T-G Edward Griffin, Joseph McCarthy, and others.
The useful idiots dreaming of Fully Automated Luxury Communism will learn about the labor, the hard way or…please face the egalitarian equity firing squad wall now. (rant off)
Planning more than an hour ahead is White supremacy.
Yup, time to cut is pretty soon.
