This is anecdotal but I still thought it was instructive.
Just the other day I was driving to Toledo and that requires cutting across most of the length of Defiance County, Ohio. Keep in mind that unlike my state of Indiana, Ohio has a number of “competitive” races* including widely watched races for Governor pitting Vivek Ramaswamy, aka Vivisection Ramalamadingdong, against a twit named Amy Acton as well as what is considered an “important” Senate race which will be pivotal in determining which party controls the Senate starting next year.
Sure it is 2026 and traditional campaigning like yard signs aren’t as meaningful in a day and age when people get their “information” from 30 second TikTok clips but still yard signs and other visible expressions of support for candidates are meaningful. Around here we see lots of yard signs for local candidates, while not a single one for my Congressman Marlin “Mass Amnesty, Israel First” Stutzman because even though he is up for re-election, there is zero chance of him winning by less than 20% (unless turnout is even worse that I expect).
So with a couple of weeks left before the “election” with competitive races in Ohio, driving down a busy road in Defiance County I saw exactly two yard signs for Ramaswamy, about 50 feet apart, planted on the side of the road in front of a field instead of a house meaning they were almost certainly just dumped there by volunteers rather than by people who support Ramalamadingdong. I saw one Amy Action sign but it was in front of a house. Zero signs for either candidate for the Senate.
The reason this strikes me as significant is that it speaks to voter enthusiasm. Without a Presidential candidate on the ballot, especially the Bad Orange Man, it is a lot harder to get voters to show up. Defiance County is a pretty deep red county in a sea of deep red counties in Ohio that run along the Indiana border.
Defiance County went for Trump 69% to 29% for Kumula Whorris. Now that is a big margin but not as large as a lot of counties in Ohio. 10 counties went for Trump by at least 80% led by Holmes County at 83% (Holmes County is home to one of the largest Amish communities in the country but they generally don’t vote). A number of those 80+ counties are right around Defiance.
Only 16 of Ohio’s 88 counties went for Trump or actually for Kumula by less than 60%. Harris only won 7 counties total out of 88, but those counties were in the big cities like Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, Akron, Toledo, etc.
The point being that the Republicans need turnout in places like Defiance County and all along the I-75 to Indiana border corridor in order to offset the big blue counties. Based on what I am seeing and hearing, that enthusiasm just isn’t there and if those counties don’t go big for Ramaswamy, not only does he lose but it likely drags down other Republicans on the ballot.
Polling is of course unreliable in an era of smart phones, I never answer calls from numbers I don’t have in my contacts and I often don’t answer when it is someone I know. Even Democrats are trying to temper expectations a bit but from what I see across the border, Ohio isn’t looking good for the GOP and it mostly comes down to the most visible person on the ticket.
In an ugly desperation move the Ramaswamy campaign ran an ad attacking Amy Acton that featured her own mother crapping on her. Acton is estranged from her mother and allegedly that stems from her being molested by her stepfather while her mother stuck with him. I don’t know what the truth is but it certainly seems like the ad is backfiring on Ramaswamy. Trump of course loves the ad.
His campaign has been focused on scolding Americans for not being more like Indians and a promise to fill Ohio with new and better migrants. I am sure this will do wonders for the average Buckeye….
Nothing will help housing affordability quite like adding 4 million Indians who will take up the already sparse housing, driving up prices and availability (see: Please To Excuse Saar But I Am As Buckeye As You). He really is so much smarter than White people! The dirty secret of this dirty scamming street shitter is that he is perfectly fine with Ohioans being forced to live like Indians as long as he gets to hold power and wealth for himself and his family.
He is a terrible candidate and is if anything an even more terrible person. I haven’t wanted to see a candidate get humiliated this much since Hillary Clinton and if anything he might be at least as awful as the Wicked Witch herself. He thinks himself to not only be a genuine American but more American than people with family history that dates back centuries. Fuck that street shitter, I almost wish I lived in Ohio so I could break my streak of never voting for a single Democrat.

As bad and nutty as Acton is, I think she is less cunning than Ramaswarthy and will be easier to denigrate once elected. As someone noted in a comment, however, Ramaswarthy will not go quietly, just like Nimrata Randhawa didn’t. Some cuckservative repuke will pick him and appoint him to something, because reasons. Saw an insane comment today at ZeroHedge where someone said “If we just keep the Senate, Trump can appoint two more Supreme Court justices and then we’re SAVED!”
