A Win Is A Win

The Supreme Court ruled today that citizens have a right under the 2nd and 14th Amendment to carry a handgun for defense outside of the home.

This is self-evident but it took until 2022 for the Court to finally rule that our Constitutional rights don't stop when we step outside of our home.

A nice win but one that likely will be short lived. Now we wait for the overturning of Roe and the real fun to begin.

  3. Gotta enjoy the irony pointed out on Practical Eschatology

"There is a certain irony to all of this, though. While both Republicans and Democrats often seek federal solutions to state or local problems, the Democrats are much more likely to ignore state rights in pushing for national uniformity. So, even though the Second Amendment (in fact, all of the Bill of Rights) was originally a limitation on federal, not state powers, the Democrats are the ones that pushed federal gun control legislation starting with the National Firearms Act. Prior to that an individual state, say New York, could have gun laws that differed from other states. Starting with the NFA, that changed. And the Democrats and big government types applauded it. So, yes, there is a certain irony that such people are now appalled when this "one size fits all" approach does not work out as they want it. And at the same time they are screaming about Trump and his supporters not automatically accepting the official results of the 2020 election. But, to borrow a phrase from the greatest gun salesman in history, some people are determined to bitterly cling to their outdated, disproven, and racist anti-gun laws."
