Principles Won't Keep You Warm In The Gulag

A great piece I wanted to draw your attention to over at Cold Fury: When you lose on principle, you’re still a LOSER

Mike takes aim at the "conservative" types who are content or even gleeful when they lose because they can claim to hold the moral high ground. What good are "principles" when you are in a life or death struggle? Even worse, these "principles" and "rules of fair play" have been dictated to us by the same people who want to see you dead and at the same time feel free to ignore the very rules they demand we follow.

As I commented on Mike's post:

Your principles won’t feed your starving kids and your principles won’t keep you warm in the gulag.

Playing by the rules is fine in sports or board games but in a fight for survival, there is no such thing as a "fair fight".

Go check out Mike's post and the post he linked to from John Ringo. Good stuff. For more on this topic from yours truly see:

Don't let people who want you and your family exterminated dictate the rules of the fight.

  2. Another side note on Afghanistan. I can't say what the economic contribution was of poppies and opium here in the US, from Afghanistan, but it seems widely accepted we put a good amount of resources into encouraging and protecting the production. So it might be fair to say that it was a decent contribution to our economy. The Taliban had outlawed poppies prior to our arrival. And the Taliban just now outlawed them once again, in cooperation with China under guise of border security and anti-terrorism. So, chalk that up to another blow to our economy, and another win for the guerrillas.

"Middle class America is no less violent than any other people. They seem passive because they're results oriented. They rise not out of blood frenzy but to solve the otherwise insoluble. Their methods of choice are good will, cooperation, forbearance, negotiation and finally, appeasement, roughly in that order. Only when these fail to end the abuse do they revert to blowback. And they do so irretrievably. Once the course is set and the outcome defined, doubt is put aside. The middle class is known, condemned actually, for carrying out violence with the efficiency of an industrial project where bloody destruction at any scale is not only in play, it's a metric. Remorse is left for the next generation, they'll have the leisure for it. We'd like to believe this is merely dark speculation. History says it isn't."
