You Can Smell The Desperation

Feeling their control slipping away, the CDC graciously announced last week that “fully vaccinated” people no longer have to wear a mask indoors except in specific circumstances. Since non-insane people already weren’t wearing masks indoors except when forced to by stores and as I am “full vaccinated” in the sense of having all the vaccines I am going to get, more specifically zero doses, I guess I no longer have to put on a mask to get past the greeter at big box stores. This is leading to a general meltdown of people who love to show how responsible they are by wearing masks alone in a car or while mowing the lawn. As these people are already vaccinated, it makes one wonder what the point is.

– If the vaccine really works, why do you care if I am not vaccinated or wearing a mask?
– If you are still in danger, then why get the vaccine in the first place?
Anyway, I think this meme captures the mindset perfectly.

Meanwhile we are seeing a great divide among retailers. Right after the new CDC guidance was announced, Trader Joes said you no longer have to wear a mask to shop if you are “fully vaccinated” and they were quickly followed by the Wal-Mart family of stores and Costco. Others like Home Depot are continuing to require masks no matter what. It is a tough place to be as a business, if you drop the mask mandate you will get flack from the screeching mask-Karens who think everyone should wear a mask forever and that the Chinese coronavirus can get them even if they are “vaccinated” and wearing a mask. On the other hand stores that don’t drop the mask mandate are going to lose business to places that do. I don’t like shopping at Wal-Mart but if I have to choose between shopping at Wal-Mart without a mask and wearing a mask to shop at Meijer, my preferred store? I’ll go to Wal-Mart.
If we lived in a sane world, people who wanted to wear a mask could do so and those who choose not to wear a mask could eschew them and we would all be just fine. In case you missed it, we don’t live in a sane world.
Then we get this bizarre headline from CBS:
So not wearing masks may encourage “extremists”.
W. T. F.
“Ideologically-motivated violent extremists fueled by perceived grievances, false narratives, and conspiracy theories continue to share information online with the intent to incite violence,” the bulletin reads.

Friday’s threat advisory also warns that violent extremists may seek to exploit eased COVID-19 restrictions across the U.S. “to conduct attacks against a broader range of targets after previous public capacity limits reduced opportunities for lethal attacks.”

The bulletin alerts the public to extremists’ routine use of social media and online platforms to make claims of “a race war” capitalizing on civil disorder “to engage in violence in furtherance of ideological objectives.” The use of encrypted messaging by lone offenders and small violent extremist cells presents a challenge to law enforcement operations, DHS confirmed in the advisory, as offenders aim to obscure operational signals of future acts of violence.
Now if you notice that there is a race war being waged against Whites, a topic I have a draft post in the works regarding, you are going to engage in violence. Of course there is all sorts of racially motivated violence already in America but it is almost entirely black on White, black on Jew, black on Asians….
What exactly would make “violent extremists” more prone to conduct “attacks” because of loosened Covid restrictions? It would seem that normalizing the wearing of masks would have been a great benefit to “extremists”, it certainly has made it harder to identify assailants in diverse crime situations.
Kudos to the Department of Homeland Security for consistency, no matter what happens they always stay on message about the phantom menace of “White supremacist domestic terrorism”.
More and more people are just done with the Covid crap and not just naturally contrary and suspicious people like me. After more than a year of lockdowns, masks and “flattening the curve”, they have had it. Look for a new strain to magically appear to justify locking things back down before the end of summer. The resistance to the Great Reset is proving more intractable than they expected and the coronavirus just isn’t as effective as it needs to be at this point.
They are desperate for a new crisis, and I expect the next one to be far more serious and lethal than Covid-19.

Maybe not on paper, but the divide among retailers isn't really all that big, and we live in a saner world than one might think, even though it's not nearly as sane as you and I might like. My experience over the past year has been that only one retailer that I know of — Half Price Books — has really required masks, in the sense of ordering me to leave when I declined to put one on. The others? What they actually require is that you be willing to walk past "masks required" signage. I've been doing so this past year. At first, it gives you that little thrill of naughtiness, but then it just becomes routine as you get more and more practice at it.

Home Despot? I've been in there a bunch of times over the past year, and nobody's said anything. Lowe's? Same deal. Kroger, Wally World, Meijer … same-same. I've heard that Menard's is hard-nosed, but I don't like that place anyway, and so haven't had occasion to test them. And Half Price Books: well, they're dead to me now, regardless of what policy changes they might make.

I think the operative principle is simply that most people are cowards. The cowardly customer didn't want to be barked at, so they muzzled up, and are now starting to shed their muzzles. And the cowardly employee of the retailer perceives (correctly) that his or her path of least resistance is to simply fail to see the occasional bare face like mine. No one has to be "John Wayne" brave to prevail in the Kingdom of the Cowards (I'm certainly not in that class); he just has to be a little smidgen braver than the average. It's a pretty low bar. It has to be, for me to clear it as easily as I have.

Menards has been hardline about it from the get-go but I don't go there. Meijer doesn't normally hassle me about not wearing a mask, probably because so many Amish shop there and were resistant to the mask. Costco has been the worst, I have been stopped at the door and harassed in the store.

Depending on where you live, some businesses will call the Badge & Gun Gang on you if you dare not to wear the Muzzle of Submission. They point the finger at state governments that threaten to fine them if they don't. It's easy to say "don't go there," but when every supermarket does this, where do you get food?

For most of the last year we have been getting stuff from a local Amish grocery or from Dollar General, or getting curbside from Sam's which I like better than going in anyway.
