The pieces are already moving on the Left in anticipation of a massive electoral victory in a few months. In my prior post, Pre-Pogrom Planning, we looked at things like eliminating the filibuster so a simple majority in the Senate can start slamming through legislation. Barack Obama, in what was unseemly and gross even by his low standard, used the funeral of John Lewis to make a political speech where he demanded we grant statehood to Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico while also calling for the end of the Senate filibuster, calling it a "Jim Crow relic". Democrats have long pushed for statehood for Puerto Rico and D.C., knowing that both would be an automatic and permanent additional four Democrats in the Senate. In 2016 D.C. voted for Hilary Clinton by a whopping 86.8%, with Hilary receiving 90.9% of the vote to Trump's 4.1%. Third party and write-in candidates got over 5% of the vote. According to Wikipedia: "The District of Columbia has voted for the Democratic ticket in every election since voters were allowed to participate in 1964." Puerto Rico would be just as reliably leftist.
Without the filibuster, it is likely that statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico would become a reality, requiting a new flag with 52 stars, although it is just as likely that Congress would abolish the existing flag entirely as "racist" and replace it with a flag of the black power fist or something else equally asinine. The additional four Democrat Senators would give cover for swing state Democrats to publicly oppose the more loony legislation while still having enough votes to pass almost anything.
Meanwhile, just last week, Justice Crypt Thing aka Ruth Bader Ginsburg announced that her cancer had returned and she was undergoing chemotherapy. What was interesting was that she had waited four months to announce this. Ginsburg is 87 years old, an age when a normal person would have retired. The announcement that RBG was once again battling a serious illness raised the specter of her dying or having to leave the court, giving Trump the opportunity to nominate his third Supreme Court justice and more importantly shifting the Court to the right significantly. Replacing RBG with someone like Amy Coney Barrett, a conservative jurist with seven children, would be enormous.
Compounding the hysteria from the Left over the thought of RBG being replaced is the ghost of Merrick Garland's nomination. The liberal Garland was nominated in 2016 by Barack Obama to replace conservative legal giant Antonin Scalia but the Senate, controlled by Republicans, refused to give him a hearing, ostensibly because Obama was in his lame duck final year. Eventually Trump replaced Scalia with Gorsuch, maintaining the ideological balance. Democrats have been fuming about it ever since, which I get but this is politics and no one plays fair.
Should RBG finally run out of the blood of virgins and be unable to sustain her life, Trump would of course nominate someone immediately and the Left will go berserk. If you thought the Kavanaugh hearings were bad, you ain't seen nothing. I would fully expect actual violence from the Left to prevent the vacancy from being filled, and by that I mean armed protesters shooting their way into the Capitol. That is not an exaggeration.
The announcement that RBG was battling cancer yet again was carefully choreographed as was the Democrats response, threatening what I have been expecting them to do anyway: adding seats to the Supreme Court.
Democrats warn GOP: Don't fill a Supreme Court vacancy in 2020 or we'll retaliate
The retaliation in question would be adding seats to the Supreme Court, which is technically legal. Hilary's VP nominee, Tim Kaine, a "moderate" was chosen to be the one delivering the message:
Kaine, the party's last vice presidential nominee and a lawmaker with a reputation as an institutionalist, said confirming a nominee of President Donald Trump this year could compel Democrats to consider adding seats to the high court.
"If they show that they're unwilling to respect precedent, rules and history, then they can't feign surprise when others talk about using a statutory option that we have that's fully constitutional in our availability," he said. "I don't want to do that. But if they act in such a way, they may push it to an inevitability. So they need to be careful about that."
That is the nice part, the "we are just being reasonable but if you replace RBG we can't be held responsible for what happens" rhetoric. It is also bullshit.
Just to be clear, this is the plan anyway. What Democrats are planning for next year when Biden (or more likely his VP) is in office is going to violate the Constitution in all sorts of ways, especially free speech, firearms ownership and due process. To smooth the way, the Democrats need a rock solid and predictable SCOTUS with enough votes to run roughshod over the conservative members.
Right now there are 9 Supreme Court justices and that fixed number has been the same since right after the Civil War. Having a fixed number means that each seat is critical and the balance has often been 5-4 with someone like Anthony Kennedy and now John Roberts serving as the swing vote. Add six or eight seats to the SCOTUS and pack them with far left activists alongside the existing leftist judges and the Left essentially creates an unaccountable court full of far left ideologues who can essentially write laws at will with no one to stop them. If the SCOTUS can make gay "marriage" the law of the land by fiat and create a "right" to abortion out of thin air, there is nothing the court can't do. A complete gun ban for all firearms? Constitutional. Banning political "hate speech"? Constitutional. Creating a separate and not even close to equal legal system for non-Whites? Constitutional.
Again, this is already the plan. The Democrats are just setting the stage to do it. From the same article:
In a sweeping statement of intent, the Democratic National Committee is poised to add language to the party's 2020 platform endorsing "structural court reforms to increase transparency and accountability."
The draft language, reviewed by NBC News and expected to be approved later this month, denounces Republicans as having "packed our federal courts with unqualified, partisan judges who consistently rule for corporations, the wealthy, and Republican interests" and for "blocking a Democratic president from appointing a justice to the Supreme Court."
Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, said she has been "talking with people who have different ideas about what we can do — including adding to the court, including having certain circuit court judges cycle in and other ideas" like term limits.
Term limiting circuit judges would start the process of getting rid of Trump's appointments who otherwise would serve for life. More...
Some progressive activists have been pressuring Democrats for months to expand the Supreme Court if they regain power, in retaliation for the GOP blockade of Obama nominee Merrick Garland in 2016. The push has been led by Demand Justice, a pressure group founded by Brian Fallon, a former aide to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
"I think we have sufficient grounds to pursue structural reform just based on the events of 2016," Fallon said. "If Republicans compound that sin with an egregious violation of norms in a seat that was held by a liberal justice, I think that we will gain new allies very quickly."
Notice the religious language. Not holding hearings for Merrick Garland was a "sin" and replacing RBG with a conservative would be an even worse "sin" because it would threaten the unholy sacrament of abortion. This Fallon guy is not out here on a limb on his own, he used to work for Hillary and Chuck Schumer so he is clearly a vetted and approved mouthpiece. As is usually the case in today's "journalism", the really juicy bit is at the end where most people won't bother reading (emphasis in red mine)....
Hirono promised that there would be a "hue and cry" if Republicans were to move to fill a vacancy this year — and she suggested she's sympathetic to the progressive push to restructure the judiciary even if that doesn't happen.
"Regardless of whether they try to do it or not, there have already been discussions about what we can do with our courts to make them much more balanced in many ways," Hirono said. "Because the majority of the judges are white, male, young, with a particular orientation, ideological orientation."
Well we can't have too many White males on our courts, even though White men were responsible for creating this entire system in the first place. If you are a White guy, do you have any confidence at all that the legal and governmental systems in America will treat you fairly in the coming years? If you do, you are a fool.
Should Biden win, expect to see a push for massive changes to the courts before the end of next year. Your inalienable rights aren't going to be worth the paper they are printed on. The only "rights" you will have are what the leftist courts say they are and those "rights" will be subject to change at will. Free speech, due process, equality under the law, the right to keep and bear arms and self defense. Those are going to be gone in the blink of an eye.
Like I said, the timing of the announcement about RBG's cancer seemed odd to me. In fact, it seems to me that they are kind of hoping Trump gets to replace Ginsburg so they have a more obvious pretext to "fix" what he has done. If the polls continue to indicate Trump losing and if the Dems feel confident they can get sufficient fraudulent votes, I would not be surprised to see RBG resign before the election. Either Trump manages to replace her, a temporary victory that would be immediately overturned by a new, larger SCOTUS, or more likely enough Republican Senators refuse to confirm his nominee that the seat remains open until 2021, something that seems likely based on past history and statements by some of the squishier Republican Senators.
All of the pretense and subterfuge is gone. The Left is smelling a big win and they are laying their cards on the table.
Meanwhile our glorious America First leader Donald Trump is....tweeting about athletes kneeling during the National Anthem.
That certainly seems like a critical issue 13 weeks before the election.
I'll ask it again: Is Trump Trying To Throw The Election?
