Manufacturing A Crisis

Rahm Emmanuel famously opined that you should never let a good crisis go to waste. This is a lesson the Left has embraced wholeheartedly. Along with this tactic comes the time honored tradition of manufacturing a crisis where none existed. While I try to keep my conspiracy theories in check on these pages, I have little doubt that at a minimum the government knew something in advance of things like the sinking of the Lusitania, the attack on Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

That brings us to the looming January 20th Second Amendment rally in Richmond, Virginia. As I already wrote, the ghost of Charlottesville is looming large in the minds of many people. I posted this morning on Twitter the following.

My tweet was in response to this news coming out yesterday:

Virginia governor declares state of emergency in advance of pro-gun rally near state Capitol

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam declared a state of emergency in Virginia from January 17-21, amid plans by pro-gun groups to hold a rally at the Capitol on January 20. Northam said law enforcement officials have identified “credible threats of violence surrounding the event,” including white nationalist rhetoric and plans by out-of-state militia members to attend.

The measure will temporarily ban guns from the Capitol grounds in Richmond.

Yes, Governor Ralph “Got Away With Blackface” Northam is declaring a “state of emergency” in response to the citizens of his own state exercising their Federal and state constitutionally protected right to free assembly and the petitioning of their government. It is almost like Coonman thinks the people of Virginia are the enemy or something.

Like the sun rising in the East, CBS predictably wasted no time in reminding people of their version of events in Charlottesville:

“These are considered credible and serious threats,” Northam said. “This intel comes from mainstream channels both off line and online such as alternative dark web channels used by white nationalists outside of Virginia. These are fueled by misinformation and conspiracy theories. No one wants another incident like the one we saw in Charlottesville in 2017. We will not allow that mayhem and violence.”

A woman was killed and dozens more injured in Charlottesville in August 2017 when a white supremacist rammed his car into a group of counter-protesters during a white nationalist rally.

“Serious and credible threats”. Right. I spend a lot more time on dissident right and gun rights websites than Northam does and if anything everyone I see is either preaching restraint or urging people not to go at all. There are no credible threats but invoking Charlottesville and muttering about “alternative dark web channels” makes it all sound super scary.

Apparently Northam doesn’t have the authority to ban guns from the state capitol grounds during a “state of emergency” but that hasn’t stopped him. He simply declared 14 acres of open ground on the capitol grounds an emergency “shelter”. Fortunately the Virginia Citizens Defense League is suing the state for an injunction this morning.

VCDL Expected To Seek Injunction Blocking Northam’s Gun Ban

There is a good primer in that article into Northam’s shady use of “shelter” to ban lawful firearms from an open public space. RTWT.

The Left is using the same old playbook, trying to control the narrative and creating a crisis where none exists. I mean “alternative dark web channels”? Come on. No matter what happens, the media will blame in on “white nationalists”, none of whom are planning on attending as far as I know.

On the other hand, if the patriots in Virginia get cowed by this, then Northam wins anyway. Better to show up and be counted, no matter the consequences, then to keep retreating out of fear of getting in trouble. We cannot let the Left use “Charlottesville” to suppress our free assembly in the same way they have used accusations of “racism” for decades to restrict free speech. What are we supposed to do, never assemble anywhere in public again because it could be the next Charlottesville? Don’t you see where that ends?

The neo-Maoist left in America is counting on heritage Americans to be shamed and frightened into silence. Our inaction is all the incentive they need to ratchet up their attacks. The people who hate heritage Americans don’t see our caution and forbearance as sensible and laudable, they see it as weakness to be exploited. When we blink and stand down, they accelerate their efforts. Enough is more than enough. What is to stop Governor Northam from declaring a perpetual state of emergency throughout Richmond and declaring the whole city a “shelter” and then expanding outward from there? Nothing but those willing to stand up and be counted.
